"Sorry about that...just got off the phone with Levi," Kutchel spoke upon re-entering the luminous monitor room of the Trost Police Department. "His school called me thirty minutes ago. Said he hadn't shown up for his first and second period classes." Shadis didn't look up from the notebook he'd been scribbling in and rather opted to let out a sharp chuckle."He's definitely your child..." Kutchel shook her head softly with a smile, hands crossed over her chest as she strolled closer to get a glimpse at the Chief's notes.
"Yeah, yeah...I love that boy to death, though," Kutchel replied with a soft smile, "even if he reminds me too much of myself."
"Only box he's got left to check is joining the Sina Armed Forces, hm?" Kutchel let out a sigh, pulling out the chair beside Keith's own and slouching into it.
"I sure hope it doesn't come to it. But if that's what he wants..." The air had suddenly thickened. Shadis glanced over to Kutchel, only to see that her sullen gaze rested upon the monitor before him. He let out a hefty sigh before setting down his pen.
"Kutchel...I'm sure he doesn't hold you to your abse—"
"He should."
"You're his mother."
"That's the point. I'm his mother, Keith." Kutchel shook her head in disappointment, running a hand through her shoulder-length hair. "I shouldn't be gone for six months at a time. I've missed birthdays and Christmases..." Kutchel swallowed thickly, cloudy gaze remaining on the monitor before her. It projected the screen of your phone; a long string of one-sided text messages. Since you had handed in the device, the 'Unknown' sender had been texting nearly every other day. The abundance of activity was a sign that the sender had not yet figured out that you weren't able to see their messages anymore.
Chilling phrases like: 'Hello, Sunshine' and 'I'm here to stay' were sent in a variety of wording...yet, the gist remained the same each time.
The unfortunate part of it all was that it seemed to be virtually impossible to track down the general location of the stalker. It appeared they were using a burner phone—a different one each time—which meant the stalker had put quite some thought into ensuring they were untraceable.
Unless there was substantial evidence that could be used to incriminate the anonymous texter and reveal their location, the Trost Police Department were out of luck.
"You know, a lot of our memories were shared through letters," Kutchel continued after a moment of silence, voice hoarse with melancholy. "And I remember that as the years progressed, his writing just...his letters were beautiful. Like poetry. I couldn't be there to...to watch it happen. To see him grow..." Keith merely sat there, face stoic and fingers tapping lightly against his notepad. He was unsure of what to say...
"You can't turn back time," he began slowly, re-grabbing his pen, "but presently, you can do whatever you deem necessary to make up for the time lost." A thoughtful reticence followed shortly afterwards. And again, only the beeping sounds of the monitors, the tender clicking of keyboards and the faint sound of someone's voice on the public address system could manage to fill the sudden lack of conversation. And then--
"Have you visited your brother yet?" Kutchel shook her head with a faint hum.
"No."
"You plan to?"
"Yes. I'm taking Levi with me to drop off a few of Kenny's things this weekend. Don't need him at my house anymore."
"Is it the drinking?"
