My Dearest Rivialle,
You may not want to admit it, but your last letter was just as charming as yourself. So charming, it's a wonder why you haven't asked (Y/n) out on a date yet. And, yes, I know you and she are "just friends". But I see the way you look at her. The saying "mothers know best" was not created for no particular reason. I know when my son's heart has been captured (don't you dare roll your eyes).
On that note, how is (Y/n), if I may ask? I hope the two of you are doing well in school (even though your uncle has forwarded me some letters from the school saying you had skipped a History period, but we'll talk about that when I get back).
I apologize for the formalities. If you have not already noticed, my words are a bit...filtered in comparison to the way I usually write my letters to you. The new Chief of Communication has begun checking every letter sent by and written to the members of the military. He tabs profanity--can you believe that? Who in Maria's name doesn't swear every once in a while? I'm not sorry to say it, but the man's got a long stick up his ass that he'll need to take out very soon or else I'll have to show him how.
Do you remember Harrison? The man I appointed Corporal a few months ago? The enemy had thrown their last grenade in his direction before they surrendered and it had cost him an arm and part of his right leg. He says that he's fine with a smile on his face, but I can see the pain behind his eyes. He wasn't fine; he couldn't be no matter how hard he tried. He'll be sent home by next week. But as disappointing as that news is, it isn't the reason I'm writing to you now.
As I stated earlier, the enemy recently surrendered their captured territory. Our government is currently working out negotiations with them as we speak. I was due to attend one of those meetings, but I decided against it. I was never one for politics--why start now? And then, I thought, if there's nothing left for me to do, why not go home? Someone else needs me there more than anyone may need me here. That 'someone' is you, Levi. I understand that there are times where it may seem that my line of work takes 100% of my attention and devotion. But I promise you, sweetheart, not a moment goes by where I don't think about you. Not a moment passes that I don't wonder what you may be doing, or who you may be with, or if you even hate me for being absent months at a time.
I've always tried to convince myself that I do it for you; that everything I do is for you. But it simply isn't enough. I could do so much more for you--for starters, being there more often.
Which is why I this afternoon, I marched into the headquarters of the Sina Armed Forces and handed in a temporary resignation letter to Hannah at the front desk. I'm coming home, Levi. And this time, I'll be staying for as long as you need me.
Sincerely,
Kutchel Ackerman.
(P.S: If this letter comes a little later than usual, it's because of my pain-in-the-ass-Chief of Communication. But don't worry about it. He'll get it from me.)
