The first thing I saw after talking to the police to try to find Ally and Connor, was two certain people that I know very well emerging from the forest right where we were standing. They were out of breath and looked. . . horrible. Like they haven't showered in days. Connor's hair was full of small twigs and debris, and Ally's skin housed splinters and scuffs.
The first thing they said to Melinda and I was, "'You need to come with us!'" Then, we stood, flabbergasted and confused at what they shouted. What? Where? And most importantly, why?' The only thing that stopped my thoughts in their tracks was the fact that they looked serious. Dead serious. Something was up. That was a fact.
To be honest, it was already something Melinda and I knew. We've known Ally ever since she moved here. We were the first to stick up for her when she got bullied, which blossomed the friendship we would eventually develop. We've known her for long enough to be aware of when she's stressed and lying. That was the key to then realizing that Ally was indeed stressed and lying.
Seeing them on the edge of the forest, with exhilaration in their eyes, only further supported our previous claims that something was going on.
The officers were far enough in the distance to not see Ally and Connor and our conversation, but it still gives me shivers what could have happened if they heard what Ally and Connor had to say.
So, here we are, running through the forest, with the wind in our face, and twigs scraping up our thighs, following two adventurers to a supposed Fantasy World.' Kinda crazy if you ask me, but there's no time for questions. Just action.
"Where are we supposed to be going?" I shout. The wind grazes across my face, and the tree leaves rustle to the breeze.
"It's hard to explain, but a stone dove entrance!" Connor shouts back. I look at Melinda. We've really got to have an imagination to believe any of this is real. This sounds completely mad. They're my friends though, and I have to believe them.
I've only spoken to Connor a few times, but the difference between them from a few months ago to now is severe. Their hand touches and shoulder taps shout a large message. We have to trust Connor now, because it seems that he is trusted by her. A lot. Just the way he looks at her makes me feel relieved. It makes me glad that Ally has someone else to look after her except Melinda and me.
But when Melinda and I walk closer, I see for starters, that they both look like they are in desperate need of food. They are extremely thin. Like they haven't eaten in days.
"Kylie. Do you have anything we could eat? I only just realized I was hungry." I nod at Connor and toss him some potato chips. He eats them in approximately ten seconds.
"Ally, you must be hungry. How long have you not had food?" I ask her, amazed at how fast Connor finished my chips.
"Let's go to a cafe somewhere. That way, you and Connor can fill you guys in on what needs to happen." Melinda says to me in a grim voice.
"Are you sure? I- what if we get caught?" Ally asks in a worried voice. We look at her reassuringly.
"You'll be fine. I don't know if the people will recognize you after a few months of being away." Melinda said. Ally still appears to be unsure, but eventually nods in agreement.
"Ok, there's one right up the street. Let's go there." I tell her.
A few minutes later, I somehow have the piece of paper Connor had shown us in my hands. I've been rereading it.
