Chapter Five

It was then that a bright idea popped in my mind. It surely wasn't the brightest of ideas, but it was something.

I slowly make my way to my feet and I begin to search through the rubble in the attic. I was determined to find something. Anything, to help our situation.

I sift through books, loose papers, old gadgets, and other knick-knacks for what seems like a few hours. The sun began to set over the tree's when I finally reached something that had caught my eye.

A book.

That might sound a bit strange, considering I had just sorted through other books and objects. But let me tell you this book was like no other.

It was old. Rotting, if you will. The leather was torn and withered and the pages from the outside appeared yellow and stained with a. . . red substance? Is that. . . blood? I feel shivers down my spine as I pick up the book. I am careful to avoid it and flip through the pages gently.

All I could make out from the messy handwriting were equations. I turn one more page and I come across instructions.

I read more.

Open the portal for the Real World? Does that mean our world? I read through the passage only to find it is 'medium - hard'.

Fairy dust

One of the obvious ingredients - a faerie's dust is important in the mixture. It's to insure the magic part of the potion, and to make the whirlwind that makes it possible to transport to a different world.

Powdered horn of a unicorn

This is the second most used item in any potion. the opening process. Once you shave the horn off of the unicorn, use a smaller cutter to cut the horn into small pieces. Then, sift through it approximately five times until it turns into a powdered substance. The powdered horn is to make sure the potion will not kill you. It will not if you put the horn in. but it has to be the exact amount. No more, no less. That amount is only a pinch more than half of a full grown horn. It's the only way to ensure life on the other side.

A mermaid's tail fin

A mermaid's fin is the smallest but one of the more important parts of the potion. The mermaid fin is to help with the fact that where you end up on the other side. This is to ensure that you will be able to survive if you land in the water. Chop the fin into small strips and place them in the jar, where it will melt gradually.

½ pint of fairy tears

You must have the fairy tears because they give you the strength to survive through the process of travelling to the other world. This potion is one of the most uncommon and therefore may be deadly. But if you have the fairy tears, you will survive. You cannot make the fairy cry. She must already have been crying.

Passion

One of the most important things that you will need is passion - an objective. Use this to help you get across effectively.

Mix together: 2 stirs clockwise and 3 stirs counterclockwise. Repeat until the potion is light lavender.

Pour over an arch, a flock of doves, or a very specific spot.

Enter the portal immediately - if you do not, the potion will wear away.

The door to the attic bangs open and I jump with a start as the huge body of a cyclops fills the doorway. I instinctively slam the book shut and leap to my feet. He snarls as he glares at the book on the floor, two feet from where it sat.
