They departed for hyperspace in record time, and it wasn't until Sabine was staring at the whirls of blue space that she realised they had left most of their gear behind. But they could get that later. She had her armour and pistols, Ezra had his lightsaber.

And they had each other.

Ezra was bouncing his leg nervously, and Sabine grabbed his hand, shooting him a smile. "Relax." She murmured. "We'll get there in time. Hoth's only ten minutes away."

He nodded, pressure increasing minutely on her hand. "I knew we shouldn't have left."

Sabine nearly sighed. Of course he would see this that way. "Look, I still think it's a good thing we weren't there." She looked into his surprised eyes. "Remember how we turned the tide at Atollon? Maybe we can do the same here."

Ezra looked away. "We lost Atollon."

"I know." Sabine placed her free hand on his cheek, moving his face to look at her. "But there's no Thrawn this time. We can do this." She leaned forward. "We will do this."

Ezra nodded, still looking skeptical. They were silent for a few minutes until the Gauntlet dropped out of hyperspace. Then his eyes widened. "Oh no..."

Only one of the cruisers had managed to get to space, and the fighters were currently trying to disable the Interdictor that was preventing the rest of the Rebels from getting into hyperspace. Two Star Destroyers were guarding the Interdictor, with another two closer to the planet sending down troop transports and vehicles.

Seemingly torn, Ezra gritted his teeth and banked to the left, heading towards Hoth. "We have to help the Rebels on the ground and hope the fighters can take down that Interdictor."

Once they were over the battle, Ezra handed the controls over to her and stood. "As soon as I'm clear, take the Gauntlet back to Echo Base and help with the evacuation!"

Sabine stood as well. "I'm not leaving you!"

Ezra took a step forward and took her hands in his own. "We'll see each other again." He whispered. "I promise."

Pressing a light kiss to her cheek, he jumped out, heading into the raging battle below. Muttering curses, Sabine returned to the cockpit and began to head to the base.

. . . . . . . . . .

Ezra stared in horror. "That's a lot of walkers."

Hera hadn't had time to brief them on what was going on, but Ezra saw enough to know the Empire wasn't testing them like Thrawn had been on Atollon.

And they weren't planning on taking prisoners.

Cursing, he pulled out his comm."Spectre Six to Spectre Two! I have six AT-AT Walkers and then AT-ST's. Unknown number of troops."

Hera sounded relieved. "Copy that, Spectre Six. Welcome back. I sent some troops to assist."

Turning around, Ezra gave a small smile as he saw his reinforcements arrive. "What's the status of the others?"

"Five is getting Seven, Four and Three are prepping the Ghost for launch."

"Copy that!" Ezra put away his comm and stared at the troopers.

"Commander Bridger!" One of the men saluted. "General Syndulla sent us."

Ezra nodded. "Right. We're up against AT-AT walkers. The only weak point they have is the base of the neck."

One of the men raised a hand. "How are we supposed to hit with our weaponry?"

Ezra thought for a moment and pulled out his comm. "Rex, you copy?"
