The smell of smoke filled my nose, waking me up immediately. I knew this would happen, the human set the apartment ablaze! I jumped straight off the couch I was sleeping on and got the dagger ready as I followed the smoke trail to the kitchen. But as soon as I ran in, dagger in hand, I was shocked to see that the only thing causing the smoke was a plate of charred pieces of toast.
"Hey, You're up." I heard Jessamine's voice coming from behind the counter where the plate was.
"Hey human" I harshly replied. I didn't feel the need to use her name. It's not like we were freakin' chums. "Mind if I ask what the fuck you think you're doing?"
She looked at me from behind the counter and raised a brow.
"Well I woke up earlier than the rest of you, so I thought I might make some breakfast" she explained to me as if I were some stupid ass. "This toaster's a piece of junk though, you just keep it for decor or something?"
"I can see why you say that." I bluntly stated, gesturing to the charcoal on a plate. I noticed her with another plate of perfectly normal toast, which she appeared to be cutting to bits.
"What are you doing there?"She looked down at what she was doing and blushed in embarrassment.
"I'm cutting these to shape like superheroes and aliens, it's something I always did for Eddie" she got a little teary eyed as she mentioned that little shit. "I guess it just became a habit of mine..."
She was doing her best not to break down emotionally as she continued to cut. I didn't want to trigger her and cause any drama so I just sat down at the table without a word. I kept a close eye on the toast to make sure she wasn't putting some kind of drug in it.
"So why exactly are you making us breakfast? Weren't you just trying to kill Blitzø yesterday?" I asked and she stopped immediately. She turned back to look at me.
"Well you're gonna be helping me track down Razor" she explained. "You'll need energy to do that. Simple."
I rolled my eyes when she turned away from me. Obviously that wasn't the only reason, but it's an answer I can live with.
"Morning, Loony!" Blitzø entered the room wearing his favorite baby pink t-shirt that reached his knees and covered his speedo underwear.
He wrapped his arms around me from behind and nuzzled my cheek. I let out an aggressive growl signaling that he should back off if he wanted to keep all of his limbs intact. He was oblivious to my reaction but let me go regardless.
"Why is the human abusing the toaster?" He asked. I looked over to see Jess smacking the toaster with a wooden spoon. I shrugged, pulling out my phone to play this fun game where I put someone's picture on a dummy and I beat the shit out of it. I had Moxxie's picture this time, for obvious reasons.
"The human has a name, you know" Jessamine said, annoyed. I watched as she put a dish of Batman and Shazam symbol shaped cinnamon toast in front of us. Blitzø looked kind of amazed at how beautifully cut they were.
"They're not poisoned or anything." Was all she said before walking away.I took a piece without looking at which symbol I got and took a bite. I was immediately greeted by the zap of cinnamon-y flavor and looked back at the piece. Blitzø saw my reaction and took a piece himself. This didn't taste like normal toast, she had to have put a drug on it or something.
"Fuck, that's good!" Blitzø exclaimed bluntly. I saw Jess at the counter nibbling the discarded crusts of the toast.
"Why are you eating the crust?" I asked. Jess shrugged.
"I like the crust better than the actual bread for some reason." She replied, sweeping cinnamon and crumbs off the counter to put into the trash can in the corner of the kitchen.
