PROLOGUE
Sashas POV
I always knew I was different. Mum never told me the truth I guessed I was different a few years ago. I would cry when I was happy and my knee would hurt and I’d be unscathed. Then there was Daddy, Mum never liked to talk about him. She missed him very dearly, me not so much. Sometimes Mum would wake up in the middle of the night calling Dad’s name ‘Benjamin’. She would scream and scream but no one would come and she would start crying.
Let me introduce myself. My name is Sasha Royce I am eleven years old. I am an only child with a single Mum.
Mum is currently dating a man named John. I don’t like John he bullies me when Mum isn’t around and I think he is cheating on Mum but whenever John isn’t around and I try to tell Mum she gets defensive and disagrees with me.
Anyway this is my story and how I was separated.
***********
Mum walks out of her room, puffy eyes and red nose. She has obviously had another nightmare about Dad.
“Morning Mum” I say cheerfully
“Good morning sweetheart” Mum croaks back. “
Are you ready for your first day of intermediate?” Mum asks conversationally.
“You bet I am!” I practically shout back. I pour some cereal into a bowl and tip some milk in as well.
I stare around our small cramped kitchen and lounge. You see since Dad isn’t here to work Mum has to work at a local supermarket, dairy kind of shop so she doesn’t get paid much. But right now our little flat is all we’ve been able to afford. Our flat is small but perfect. In the kitchen we have a few benches used for making meals and a miniscule little table served as a dining table. In the lounge we have a small couch that smells 500 years old and a small television that looks as though a caveman might have owned it.
“Sasha can you brush your teeth please?” Mum asked.
Obediently I walked into the bathroom and began to brush my teeth. When suddenly a sharp pain went through my head I groaned and absent-mindedly I touched the bit on my head that stuck out. Mum said that it was a birth mark but i didn’t think so. I didn’t argue with her because I couldn’t think of any logical explanation as to why it was there all I knew was that this bump wasn’t ordinary.
I finished brushing my teeth and by the time I got out of the bathroom pulled a brush through my bushy auburn hair, Mum had made my lunch and packed my bag for me.
“A little present for you Sasha” Mum cooed
“Aww you shouldn’t have” I said sweetly. But on the inside I was saying.
“Present? What present? Yes a present!.” Mum handed over a small cardboard box and I unwrapped it.
“Omigosh Mum this is awesome!” I cried jumping up and down with excitement.
“Do you like it?” Mum said anxiously,
“Like it? Like it? I love it!” I screamed. For sitting neatly in my hand was something I had been asking for, for ages. In my hands sat a miniature mobile phone.
