The two Haddock children trained for pretty much the rest of the day. By the time they were finished, the sun has set, and Zephyr needed to go to the forge to repair some of her arrows.
"Phew! That was some nice shooting, Nuffink!"
"Why thank you sis. But you prevailed as always."
"Oh stop." Zephyr playfully pushed her brother. "I gotta go to the forge; have to restring my bow and resharpen some of these arrows."
"Ok. Oh can you sharpen my axe too?"
"Didn't you get it sharpened yesterday?"
"Maybe. But why not get it again!"
"Oh all right. Give it here."
Nuffink handed over his beauty before giving it a kiss to the handle. Zephyr rolled her eyes and waved goodbye while heading to the forge. As she arrived, she nodded a hello to Gobber and started up the sharpening machine.
"Aye there, lass! Had a long day haven't Ya?"
"Something like that sure," Zephyr said with a grin. She gathered her extra bow string and started sharpening both her arrows and her brother's axe. She became so focused on her work, that she didn't notice her father coming in to say hi to Gobber and to her.
"Ugh! These stupid arrow heads," Zephyr mumbled in frustration, she always hated how small they were and how difficult they were to sharpen. It payed off on the end, but she also didn't want to get her fingers shed off.
"Ever tried one of these?" Hiccup said behind her. Zephyr jumped but relaxed when she realized who it was. "Used what?"
"These." He held up a smaller pair of tongs that were normally used for putting smaller weapons in the heat of the molten iron.
"Oh... that's actually pretty smart. Thanks, dad!"
"No problem!" He handed them over to his daughter, and planted a kiss on her temple. Zephyr got back to sharpening, and was happy to find out it was a lot less dangerous and more easier this way.
"Worn down your arrows huh?"
"Yah. But it's normal, I just didn't expect to train this hard today. Nuffink really wanted to prove himself."
"Did he beat you?"
"With archery or axes? No. But I'm sure he would some day," she turned off the machine and then grabbed her brother's axe to sharpen next, "even if there's a huge chance that he won't."
Hiccup chuckled at Zephyr's words. As much as she gained Hiccup's wit and smarts, she definitely gained some of Astrid's warrior qualities. It will always be hard to fathom on how a perfect mix his kids are to him and his wife. It's even better that they have their own personalities.
"Phew!" Zephyr said while wiping the sweat from her forehead, "looks I'm all done for today."
"Want me to help you clean up?"
"Nope! I'm good, thanks though!"
"No problem. See you at the house, Zephyr. Don't forget to pack for Old Berk tomorrow."
"I won't! Bye, Dad!"
"See ya."
Now left alone again in the forge, Zephyr cleaned up and waved a goodbye to Gobber. She grabbed her bow, arrows, and axe and left for the Great Hall. She sometimes liked to sketch and study when no one was in it, since it was quiet and cozy. Once she arrived, she dropped the weapons on a nearby table and walked to her normal chair for when there are important village or family meetings. Before she sat, she looked over to the shields of all the previous chiefs and their sons. She then saw hers when she was 15. The only Viking to ever be a female heiress of Berk, and probably any Viking tribe. It could've easily been Nuffink to be next in line, but no, her parents (as well as her brother) knew for certain she could do it.
She looked over to her left, and saw the shield of her father and Stoick back when Hiccup was 15. "Gee, Dad," she said to herself, "looks like both of us are making history. Just not in the same awesome way you did."
She sighed and went to her chair and pulled out her journal, writing down new invention ideas she had in mind.
Halfway through her sketching, she decided to do something different. She used the charcoal pencil that she used for more realistic drawings, and sat in front of Hiccup's shield. She decided to sketch him, and herself, as a way of unity within the Haddock family. It also showed how much they've grown. It was about sundown when she finished, so she packed up her things and retrieved her weapons from the table. She went back to the Haddock household and helped Astrid make dinner before her brother got back from whatever he was doing when she left.
After dinner the heiress went upstairs after saying goodnight and started packing her things for the trip to Old Berk. She knew it's been destroyed by Grimmel the Grizzly, but she still wanted to know at least a little bit of the place that held Berk for 7 generations.
