Mazi Nduka tried to use juju on me, but the dark one protected me.
Ibu saw me but he didn't react.
Did he not recognize me? Does that mean I'm safe as long as no one discloses that I was the woman who broke the law that night?
Worst of all, I had forgotten my delicious loaf of bread in the sand.
I was pacing around my room thinking of my misfortune when Chichi showed up at my door.
"What's up with you?" She asked.
"I— I was just thinking about yesterday. I still can't believe that Mazi Nduka would stoop as low as using charm! Using some kind of spell on me just to have me. Then there's Ibu, the ritualist," I answered.
"Beats me too, good thing that was yesterday. It's all in the past now," she assured me.
"I also lost my bread!" I complained.
"Think happy places Becky. You always tell me that. Think about your mom and my dad's spark!" She wore a big smile.
"Uloma Weds Moses!" We chorused at the same time and then laughed at the fact that we had said the same thing without planning it.
"They'll be the best couple!" I dreamed.
"You and I will become official sisters!" She chimed in.
"Chichi?" I called. She raised her brows at me.
"I still want bread!" I cried.
She faced palmed herself. "You know you can go get yourself some, right?"
I widened my eyes in realisation. "Of course I can! I'm going now."
I got on my feet and started exiting my room when for the first time, I noticed what she was wearing.
She wore makeup today and she had on a black dress that hugged her body and revealed all the curves she had.
"Chichi? Why are you all dressed up? Where are you going?" I asked slowly.
She chuckled first before answering. "You're asking the wrong question. The question is who is coming over for lunch?"
I gasped in shock. "You invited Man to our house!"
"Relax, why are you shouting as if I've killed someone?"
Just then, three knocks sounded on our door. I narrowed my eyes at her and she gave me a knowing look. Her so called visitor was here.
"I'm answering the door, you stay here and don't move a muscle!" I commanded.
My short gown swayed around as I walked to the door. The moment I opened it, I was graced with the magnificent beauty of Chike's face!
"Aaaah!" I screamed in shock and slammed the door in his face.
"You didn't tell me it was Chike!" I yelled as I walked back to Chichi who was now standing by the armchairs.
"What? I ran into him the other day and I invited him over," she defended and gave me an innocent smile.
"What did my mom say about chewing gum village boys? You couldn't even have notified me that you were inviting man to our house! Man!" I argued.
She just laughed and said, "take it easy woman. Besides, isn't it the safest to bring him over rather than I go to him?" She paused then continued, "He might even like my company so much that he might want to sleep over," she said to herself more than me.
