Quick housekeeping: I considered pulling a Drake doing back to back chapters today since I haven't updated, but we'll see. Enjoy my babies!
If anyone told me that training with Levi Ackermann for the last two weeks would actually be the thing that allowed us to get along, I would have resigned as captain, packed my shit, and left headquarters, without turning back. Ever. Literally, ever. The only time we had was between meals and training all day. What really had me was the fact that he actually paid attention and listened, without the dark, blunt insults and subluminals. He might've still thrown in a brat or Harris, but I digress. The cadets didn't think I noticed them staring and whispering at us, in just as much shock that Levi and I weren't at each others necks for the first time in....., well, ever.
I had to give it to him, he was a quick learner, mastering some of the skills that took me at least a few months to consistently perform. I had to humble him though, he still wasn't going to be able to beat me into submission, but he might beat someone on his squad or another commanding officer quicker now.
Some times when he would perform a movement, it was much easier for me to move him around so he could feel the mind to muscle connection. It was during those moments that I noticed his eyes lingering just a little too long, with him looking away like he wasn't caught. If I had to be truthful, I was doing the same thing. I would notice how his obsidian hair was growing out a little longer than normal above his undercut, the sweat just above his eyebrows, the bone structure in his face, or even just how strong his arms were underneath my hands when showing him the difference in his movements. Even just looking him in the eyes had me minorly flustered, unable to keep eye contact with him.
I didn't want to assume that there was mutual attraction coming from him, but I only pretended that I didn't notice him enjoying the view when I would leave him, but otherwise he definitely kept his distance from me. I'm not surprised honestly. Instead of setting aside time this afternoon, it was actually his suggestion to train along with the other cadets. I wasn't opposed to it, outside of the cadets being distracted, but it would save more time.
"You're too slow, ti gason blan." I didn't knock him out with my fist, instead stopping it just inches from his nose. "Again."
Levi attempted the technique again. He was getting tired, which was a sign I knew that we should stop. It would be perfect timing also, it would be only a few more minutes until afternoon training concluded before dinner. I noticed his perfect execution of punching and kicking, picking up speed the longer I kept dodging. He managed to get a hit on my arm with just the right pressure, as I noticed the tingling and numbness coursing in my tattooed arm. I held it close to my body, noticing that he realized his success. "Not bad for your first hit, captain."
He swiped his forearm over his forehead, taking a handkerchief out of his pocket to clean his hands. "Only took over fourteen days to land one."
I was able to start having some feeling in my arm again, remembering my own hidden technique. "Be grateful for that win. You just gave me permission to make things harder going forward."
"Color me not surprised." It used to irk me when he sounded so dry and cynical, but it was starting to grow on me. Too bad he was the one who needed the training, not I.
"Finally, training that doesn't end with you calling me a brat or a bitch." I took a sip of water from the taller flask that I had in my jacket.
I saw him run a hand over his face, attempting to stay in control, despite my cumbersome behavior. "For the last time, I said-,"
"A joke, munchkin, take the joke." I reminded him, making an effort not to giggle at his melodramatics. It was true. He offered an apology after I agreed to train him a couple weeks ago. Naturally, it caused me to be completely disoriented because he had never apologized to me for.....well, anything. I did not anticipate it, but I was willing to meet him halfway. Hell, he even let me make cracks on his height without much complaint either.
