"Yes! Another free fucking weekend!" Jean was basking in the free time the cadets were now afforded to have after finishing training this morning.
He wrapped an arm around Sasha's shoulders, but she was still not feeling the vibe. Her facial expression gave bitterness, as she slowly ate her small portion of bread. "There's nothing good about it, I didn't get my free meat skewers like I could have last weekend."
I couldn't help but giggle at that. This girl and her food. If you got in her way of getting it, you were dead to her. She had been upset all week, despite offering to treat her to some of the meat that was for the commanders and higher up officers. "Sasha, sis, I offered to buy you some meat and cook it for you. When are you gonna stop being so salty?"
Sasha rolled her eyes, finally letting up on acting spoiled. "I'll stop being mad if you offer to cook me some good ass meat on some skewers."
"Deal." I offered my hand to shake on it, with her wholeheartedly shaking my hand back.
"You're going to love Neveah's cooking! She actually knows what seasonings are." Griselda piped in, finishing the little remnants of her lunch.
"Just thinking about seasonings makes me want some fresh griot! All the authentic Yoruban spices and herbs." Thaïs was speaking as if she were painting a very detailed picture for Sasha to imagine.
"Baby, don't start with Sasha like that, she's gonna end up getting off again." Zaynab mentioned, trying not to shudder.
"I agree, we don't feel like dealing with that today......or any day." Mikasa held her right hand over her mouth, almost as if she were going to vomit on the spot.
"Okay, I'm still sitting here!" Sasha's mouth was agape. The utter audacity of everyone clownin' her shouldn't be a surprise anymore.
"Every time you guys talk about Yoruban food, I swear it's like we're missing out on something that doesn't look like it died before we ate it." Jean sighed, resting his cheek on his hand.
Zaynab flicked a small bread crump at Jean's nose. "I mean, you pale folk don't season your food......, it's like eating sandpaper."
Armin read the room and immediately changed the subject. "Is there anything you're doing specifically to start the weekend, Neveah?"
"I was just going to keep it chill and stay to myself mostly." I answered honestly. No offense to these kids, but I see them every day of my life, a little too often. I still didn't have it in my heart to be mean to them though, they're like my little siblings. You can't always pick your family and most of the time they were good kids.
Connie was walking towards our table, popping a squat next to his best friend. "You need to stop being so anti-social, or you might turn into Captain Levi."
"I wouldn't recommend saying that too loud. He might have you clean the stables for like eight months." Jean nonchalantly finished his water, almost bored hearing about his commanding officer.
"Or clean his office from dusk till dawn." Eren piped in, damn near shuddering at the thought.
I rolled my eyes, twiddling my pen in my hands. "Y'all need to leave him alone, he's really not that terrible."
Everyone turned around and looked at me as if I had turned into a Titan like Eren. Almost as if saying Levi was a decent person was blasphemous, inconceivable, or even just slightly true. They really ain't have to do him like that.
"Are we talking about the same person?" Connie's tone of voice was a mix of sarcasm and laughter. These babies really out here hatin' on lil Lee. Like what's wrong with the man wanting to just be clean?
