"well, look who's finally home," a low voice boomed, making the adelaide freeze in her stance as she refused to stare at the beholder of such a venomous voice. "someone decided to take their time when getting groceries, huh?"

adelaide didn't dare to turn around, she simply kept her nude lacquered fingertips amongst the light switch she just turned on; staring at the white lever like a hopeless distraction of defeat. "i— yeah, sorry, babe. i did," the chestnut haired girl sputtered, gulping harshly all along the way.

"mind telling me why you took ages?" the low voice quizzed, the tone reeking in such toxicity that made adelaide feel the acid burn of her boyfriend from a mile away.

the girl let out a heavy sigh, accepting her faults before surrendering and putting her groceries on the marbled tile of the entryway below her. tearing her vision away from the brown paper bags was like preparing for a sin, making adelaide slowly brace herself in making eye contact that felt like committing a crime. "i got a bite to eat before shopping, nothing big," adelaide informed, shrugging her shoulders in a sense that her excuse was not necessarily a lie.

with the eyecontact the couple upheld, adelaide acknowledged how black was usually the color of comfort, familiarity almost. the dark shade coated samuel's arms from the tattoos that lined up against dark skin. the deep color was found in the curly wisps of samuel's natural black hair, forming small coils of thick strands that only contrasted his girlfriend's own. with the way the shade of black contradicted the bright glare of the streetlights at night, adelaide usually saw black heavens in her boyfriend's dark eyes, similar to the way one would drive down the winding evening road with nothing but a streetlight's red and green hues highlighting one's skin.

however, adelaide usually melted in the black eyes that held the poetry of her love life, the beaded irises that held her entire universe if that. however, samuel's black beaded irises now reigned the deepest shade of color, merely resembling tar. his black eyes stood unforgiving in a sense that they pulled you in through its toxicity — reeking black viscous liquid that was solely filled with destructive distillation.

her boyfriend was peering around the corner of the living room; his head pointed outwards with his curly hair drenched, but the remains of his body hidden behind a wall— meaning his dark complexion completely contradicted the white washed walls of their shared flat. "a bite?" samuel puzzled, his tone was softer now, merely laced with sincerity in a sense that her lie was believable. "do you mind getting me one?"
