"Everyone got the code to your giftcard?"
Sav and Aman mutter a 'yes' under their breathe while I shake my head. "I didn't even get an email."
"You didn't?" I see Trish's lips twitch a bit as she looks at me with big, innocent eyes. "Lemme check."
She types something into her phone, waits a little, checks her phone again does a disapproving sound. "My bad, Kaylee. I forgot to submit your name in the student's list," she shrugs. "You can't blame me, though. You came in middle of the session."
I should have known better than to trust this siren.
I try calling my mom but she doesn't answer. I try to call some couple of times before I plead her in text to call me.
"Why isn't she picking up?" I mutter to myself. "Damn it, mama."
"We can share," Aman suggests. "I'm not gonna spend all that on myself."
I shake my head. "That's yours. I'll come later and take something."
"Later? We leave tomorrow noon–"
"And I don't think you can afford spending here," Trish points her thumb towards the Channel store we're standing in front of. Aman gives her a frown while Savanna scoffs.
Can I afford it?
No. Not right now, at least.
"Why don't you ask for money to Grace?" Savanna asks, a half smile on her face. "Can't she afford it, too?"
I refrain myself from punching her straight on her nose and instead smiled. "She's a student, remember? I'd have asked if she was some millionaire heiress. But she's not."
When Brooke had called me Billionaire's Bitch, I had stopped myself from waving off her. The last time we snooped around to see her actual net worth, we almost —
"Well, poor Grace Halls. Even poorer Kaylee King," Trish pouts. "Let's go shopping now!"
"I'll leave then," I tell Aman. "Send me a pic of you when you're done."
"Don't leave," Sav smiles a sickeningly sweet smile. "Help us choose. Maybe we can see something for you, too."
"Savvy's right. The pre-owned clothes come cheap."
"What the fuck are you two doing?" Aman seethes. "Who pissed in your breakfast today?"
"We're just saying–"
"We don't wanna hear."
All hail Aman.
"Leave it, dude. Let them do their shopping fast so we can do yours." I slide my arm around Aman's and tug him a little. With an eyeroll, he starts walking. Savanna and Trish skip ahead while we laze around.
"I think you should take something," Aman starts. "We can put the bill in the name of school."
"It's alright. I already have too much in my closet."
We walk through the sections, talking about which dress looks too light or which looks too dark.
"How does the school afford so much?" I ask while feeling the fabric of a dress in my hands. "They just gave out $1000 for 42 students and $2000 for 3. That's a huge sum to spend."
Aman chuckles. "We actually get sponsors. Our sports team is the only one in this part of Philadelphia that doesn't suck. And again, it's the first time they gave out giftcards."
"Trish said we leave tomorrow. Where are we leaving to?"
"NYC."
"And where are we staying?"
