~~~If anyone is actually ready this,  thanks :)~~~
Alex closed his eyes. He couldn't fight the darkness anymore. So he embraced it. His mind drifted to the past. When he was back at the dojo before Raelyn had left. Before things had taken a turn for the worst.
He took a deep breath. "I have something for you."
Raelyn smiled. "For me? What is it?"
He pulled the necklace out of his pocket. He had been waiting for the perfect time to give it to her, now was as good a time as any, right? "It's not much but-" He didn't finish, he was too distracted by how amazing she looked.
Raelyn took it and read the engraving on the square piece of wood. Hope. "I love it," She said. She slipped it over her head. He remembered her face just then. She was glowing. She had made him feel like he had given her something expensive, when in truth he had made the necklace himself. He had used his element to burn the word onto the wood.
The noise of his containment cell opening pulled him from his thoughts and he forced his eyes open. Someone in a lab coat walked in with water and bread. They made sure he ate it then let him go to sleep.
Sleep came easy to him, and soon he was dreaming, he dreamed of their last day together before she left.
"I've finally made a decision," Raelyn said slowly, watching for the reaction she was expecting from him. "I'm going to leave." Alex opened his mouth to protest but she held her finger up so she could continue. "I gave it a lot of thought." She looked up at him, searching his eyes.
Alex shook his head. "We need you here, you're a valuable member of this team, a ninja, and ninja never quit."
"I have to look for her Alex, she's my mother," Raelyn said.
"You don't have to leave the Ninjnerds to look for her," he replied, but he already knew her answer. He was silent for a moment. "Then I'll go with you, we'll find her together."
"No I have to do this alone."
Alex frowned. "You don't want me to come with you?"
"It's not that, this is just something I have to do by myself."
"Fine, go. I don't care." He had lied, because of course he cared. Her not wanting him to go had hurt him. "Just forget it."
"Alex, please don't. I don't want us to part like this."
He laughed hoarsely. "You should have thought of that before. Just leave, ok?" With that he turned and didn't look back. He regretted what he had said but what was worse was that she did leave, without saying goodbye. And she returned the necklace he had given her. He found it the next morning laying on the oak chest at the foot of his bed in the dojo dorm.
~~~I feel like this is very cringe worthy part o.o~~~

But I hope you like it anyway! <3
