Raelyn was right about there being another level. She phased through the floor and landed as quietly as possible in a large cold, dark room. Her eyes took a moment to adjust to the darkness.
The first thing she did was try to contact Taylor, but something was interfering with the com. Next she took in her surroundings. There were several large support pillars that blocked her view of most of the room, forcing her to walk forward.
Her heart pounded. She was afraid, but she began to move forward into the unknown. She kept hearing Natalie saying something about finding a body over and over in her head. She refused to let it eat at her, she held her head up high and peeked around the first pillar. Nothing but shadows. She continued toward the back of the room, glancing around the next pillar. Still only eerie darkness and chilling silence.
She made it to the next pillar, her ears intensely listening for any sound, any reason to recoil behind the shelter of the pillar. She took a deep breath and peeked around the pillar. She saw something. A small dim blinking light near the back wall. She inched toward it.
The light was coming from a monitor. As she neared it a light turned on. The light was not bright but she still shut her eyes then blinked as they readjusted to the light. When she looked up again her heart nearly stopped.
There in front of her was an unconscious Alex, hanging from the wall by dark chains she guessed were made of Venge Stone, locked in a glass cell.
For a moment she couldn't do anything. Her hands shook and she only stared in shock.
When she finally snapped out of her stupor, she blinked away her tears and tried to enter the cell. The door wouldn't budge so she phased through.
"Alex," she whispered. "Alex, wake up." She was struggling to keep her voice steady. She couldn't manage to get him up so she attempted taking off the chains. She first took off the ones on his ankles, then she freed his wrists and lowered him to the ground. "What did they do to you? Alex, please wake up."
It took all her willpower to keep her emotions in check. She was afraid for Alex. She wasn't sure if he would make it out of there but she was trying her best to keep a level head. She had to figure out how to get out of there, without Taylor she wasn't sure she could.
She looked down at Alex and stroked his cheek, wishing him to wake up. Just then his eyes began to flicker open. She pulled off her ninja mask so he could recognize her. She choked back a sob as their eyes locked.
"Rae," he said, his voice little more than a dry whisper. "I knew-I knew you'd come."
"Of course," she said softly. "We need to get out of here, can you stand?"
He nodded and slowly rose to his feet with her help. He winced in pain, his ankles were sore from being chained. Rae walked him to the glass door and phased both of them through.
"I don't know how we're getting out of here," She said. "I lost contact with the others."
"There's a tunnel that leads out of here, it's to our left," Alex said. "I've seen Aiden use it."
"We can try it," Rae nodded.
"You wouldn't happen to have a weapon on you, would you?" He asked.
"No, why?"
"Just in case. I'm too weak to use my power if we get into a bind. There should be something in that room there." He pointed to a door to their right, thankfully he had learned a few things while he was there. Rae quickly found a katana in the room and strapped it over her shoulder. Hopefully she wouldn't have to use it.
They entered the tunnel, it was dimly lit and they had to carefully pick their way through it. Rae had to support most of Alex's weight making them go slowly. The tunnel led to the sewers which led them to a manhole where Rae reluctantly climbed out to find Taylor for help.
