Sleepover

I throw my bag down against the floor before sitting next to Hayden at the lunch table. I sigh loudly and Hayden laughs.
"Rough day already?" He asks me and I put my head on his shoulder.
"Yes, I'm already exhausted" I say closing my eyes.
"Hang in there girl we've only had 2 periods" Casey says and I groan loudly.
"Also thanks a lot for taking me home on Friday night" I say sarcastically picking my head off Hayden's shoulder. Hayden and Casey look at each other.

"I thought you took her home?" Casey says to Hayden.
"I thought you did?" Hayden says and I shake my head.
"Such good friends you assholes" I say and Hayden looks at me.
"Aww sorry love" He says and kisses my cheek.
"Yeah, sorry T I thought Hayden took you home" She says and I smile at her.
"It's okay guys I'm just teasing" I say.

"Who did take you home then?" Hayden asks and that's when I see Max walking into the cafeteria.
"HEY NEIGHBOR!" I shout and wave my arms to get Max's attention. She smiles brightly when she sees me and walks over to us.
"Hey Tess" she says and I smile.
"Sit with us" I say and she puts her bag down and takes a seat across from me and next to Casey. Hayden and Casey look at me confused and I smile at them.

"Well, uhm Max these are my friends" I say to Max and she looks at them. She puts her hand out for Casey to shake and Casey shakes her hand.
"Max" She says.
"Casey" Casey says and Max looks at Hayden.
"I know who you are" Hayden says and Max just gives him a half-smile.
"You're Max the hot new girl no one can stop talking about" I slap Hayden on the shoulder.

"Don't mind Hayden Max" I say and she just laughs and looks at me. That's when someone jumps up behind Max and wraps their arms around Max's neck. It was Rosie. I didn't know she knew Max.
"Hey there" She says to Max and Max smirks.
"Hey" Max says.
"Can I borrow you for a second?" She says softly to Max as Casey and Hayden start arguing about something not listening to Max and Rosie.
"What is it about?" Max says the smirk never leaving her face.

"Just come with me" Rosie says taking Max's hand and pulling her away. I watched as they walked off and I couldn't help but feel a sting in my heart. Was Rosie flirting with Max? No, she couldn't because Rosie has a boyfriend and anyway, I don't know if Max even likes girls. We haven't had that conversation yet.
"Yo dude!" I snap out of my thoughts at the sound of Hayden's voice.
"What?" I say.
"Casey and I were talking and we haven't had a sleepover in awhile" Hayden says and I smile.

"Yeah we haven't, how about we have a sleepover at my house?" I ask them and they both grin at me.
"I was waiting for you to suggest your house, your mom's cooking is to die for" Casey says and I laugh.
"Alright, then my house it is" I say just as the bell rings.
"Come on T we have English" Casey says taking my hand and pulling me from the table.

School had just ended and I was glad that it was over. I was so tired and all I wanted to do was sleep.
"Hey Tess wait up!" I hear Max say and I stop and turn around to see Max running towards me.
"Hey neighbor" I say smiling. We fall into step and start heading down the familiar road home.
"Hey Max my friends and I are having a sleepover at my house on Friday, do you want to join us?" I ask her.
"Will you miss me if I don't come?" She asks and I turn my face away from her gaze.
"Yes of course" I say and she chuckles softly.

"I wouldn't miss it for the world" She says and I smile. We talk away about random things but I don't bring up Rosie as that's her business and I don't want to upset her by assuming things. We head into our street and just as we walk to her house she stops and stares at a red Mustang parked in the driveway. The car looked old and worn out like the person who owned it didn't care for it over the years.
"Everything okay?" I ask her as she continues to stare at the car. Her face was still, her eyes trained on the car.

"Yes...everything's fine" She says adjusting her backpack. She looks at me and gives me a small smile. 
"I'll see you tomorrow Tess" she says and I smile back at her.
"See you tomorrow" I say and she walks to her house. She stops at her door giving me one more glance before disappearing into her house. Hmm weird. I say to myself before heading to my house.

It's finally Friday. Casey drove us to my house and I was in the front with her and Hayden and Max were in the back. Hayden wouldn't leave Max alone but Max didn't seem to mind as she answered all Hayden's questions while I just listened to them. We soon arrived at my house and Casey parked in my driveway. We all hopped out and headed to the boot to grab our bags. I put my bag on my back as I watched everyone take their bags.

I watched Max and I noticed that she was breathing heavily almost as if she was in pain but tried not to show it. She must have felt my eyes on her because she looked at me. She smiled at me and stopped breathing heavily and I just smiled back at her. We all head inside my house putting our stuff by the stairs before heading into the kitchen.
"Is your brother here?" Hayden asks.
"I think so I'm not sure" I say.
"HARRY!" I shout making Casey jump.
"WHAT?!" I hear him shout from upstairs.

"Yep, he's here" I say, and Hayden and Max laugh. We all eat some snacks and kill some time by watching TV and talking. Max was getting along really well with Casey and Hayden which was really nice. It was now really late and we had all decided to go to bed. I made beds on the floor for everyone but Casey decided to sleep in my bed with me which I didn't mind. She usually did that while Hayden would sleep on the floor. I couldn't really sleep and I properly just got a few minutes of sleep when I heard something in the bathroom. I sit up and look around. Casey was fast asleep and Hayden was snoring away.

I looked over at Max's bed and saw that it was empty. I throw the covers off of me and quietly creep out of bed. I walked into the hallway and saw that the bathroom light was on. I walk towards the bathroom and look inside just to see Max without a shirt on and bruises covering her abs. My jaw drops and I gasp which gets her attention. She looks at me with shock as we just stare at each other.
"Max..." I say and she looks down. I walk inside the bathroom and close the door.

I look down at the bruises covering her once beautiful skin and my heart just sinks. I reach out to her but I stop my fingers hovering over her bruises. I look at every inch of her to see bruises even on her neck.
"Who...how?" I ask her lost for words.
"Tess..." She says grabbing my hands before I can touch her.
"Don't" She says and I look up at her face. She lets go of my hands and I put my hands on her face. She puts her hands on my hips and I wrap my arms around her neck and gently hug her.

She hesitates for a moment before hugging me back.
"I'm sorry" I say and she just holds me tighter. We pulled apart and our faces were so close.
"Who did this to you?" I ask her. She leans her forehead against mine and closes her eyes.
"It's complicated" She says and I breathe in and out.
"Please Max I want to make sure you're okay" I say to her and she sighs. She opens her eyes and looks at me. I look deeply into her eyes and we just fall silent. I could feel her breath on my face and my heart started beating quickly.

"Max..." I say looking down at her soft inviting lips.
"Tess..." She says and that's when our lips meet. The kiss was so soft and sweet it made me want more and more. She pulls me closer to her and the kiss gets a little more intense as we both get a feeling of each other's lips. I run my hands through her hair as she runs her hands up and down my back. We break apart from each other just to get some air before we kiss each other again but this time it is rougher as her tongue licks my bottom lip and I gasp which allows her tongue to enter my mouth. Her tongue meets mine and I immediately moan which shocked me and I finally realized what was happening.
