Eva enjoyed a hot, warm shower though it did nothing to alleviate the fact that she was aching all over. Turning off the water spray, she moved from under the faucet, and grabbing her towel, began to wipe her body dry.
What the hell had she been thinking sucking up to every one of the Wild One's provocations and accepting every challenge, ineluctably putting her body under more stress than good?
She groaned, forced to admit that the man had a way with provocations that instigated in her veins a need to step out of her comfort zone.
And she guessed that was a good thing. This would surely help to induce that sense of adventure that'd always been lacking in her boring, routined life.
It was more than obvious that the man loved to underestimate her, and she was going to show him that she was made up of tougher stuff, rise up to his dares, and ultimately show him just how much of a risktaker she too could be.
Done towelling, she wrapped the towel around herself and stepped into the bedroom just in time to find her phone ringing. Rushing to grab it, she answered when she saw the caller ID.
“Hello girlfriend.” Vic's excited voice boomed through the speakers.
“Hey babe.” Eva returned, matching her friends enthusiasm.
“You won't believe what just happened.”
Knowing her friend wouldn't say anything until she had said something, Eva smiled. “I'm sure I won't.”
“June and the puker met at Katie's bar tonight.” She announced, as if it was the most exciting news of the twenty first century. “You should've been there. They were practically ripping out each other's throats.”
Vic burst out laughing then, and Eva felt compelled to join even as she cringed at the images Vic's words had conjured. June had never cared about public opinion, and it was just like her to cause a scene.
“But none of them did right?” She asked.
“Of course not, but God was it hilarious!” She laughed some more, and Eva had to wait until her mirth had died. “I miss you. If you'd been here, we would be giving June a hard time together.”
“Miss you too, girlfriend.” Eva said back, knowing very well it was a lie.
Throughout the day, her thoughts had only been arrested by Adam and his all too poignant presence, the way her heart beat out of rhythm whenever he came close.
“Anyways, I guess I should leave you to rest. You're probably exhausted after a day of dealing with grumpy businessmen. What's up with your mother anyways? Sending you off on a business trip for a week.”
“Yeah, of course, exhausting day.” At least that much was true. “Talk to you later, Vic.”
Victoria hang up, and Eva tossed her phone onto the bed. She walked over to her duffel bag containing the clothes she'd yet to unpack and hefting it onto the couch, unzipped it.
If her friends, especially June, knew that she was actually in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and that she was planning to go on an extreme sports adventure come tomorrow, they would totally freak out.
And since the last thing she needed was June fortifying her fears, she'd lied and told them that her mother had asked her to take care of some business dealings in Chicago.
Guilt pricked her conscience at the thought of her mum to whom she'd lied and told she needed a break after the satisfying but daunting way she'd managed to convince the Steels that she was a woman who could very much hold her own in the world of business.
