“Isn't it simply hilarious, Alfredo? The girl who got him all hot and bothered last night by doing some PDA with her own fiance is the same girl who got him all hot and bothered with a New Year's Eve kiss.”
The stepbrothers burst into new peals of laughter, and Adam stood at the side, trying not to show his irritation as he poured himself a stiff glass of scotch from the decanter.
Adam had made the mistake of finally telling Raul and Alfredo that Eva was the girl from the New Year's Eve and that he'd had a fling with her and was yearning for so much more, and as expected, their first action was to start teasing him.
“Just like June gets you all hot and bothered?” Lucas asked coyly, bludgeoning the back of Raul's head with his hand and causing the other man to grimace.
“Hot and bothered?” Indignation slashed on Raul's face. “Dude, that July is the most irritating brat I've ever met in my whole life. Minus score for her name. I mean, who names their child after a month of the year? I could never feel anything for her!”
“Of course, that's why you were whispering her name over and over again this morning while you were asleep." Alfredo chipped in, chuckling.
Adam swore that Raul's brown face blushed. He held his hands up in surrender, but a defensive look was still etched.
“In my defense, the girl is super hot, and I'd totally fuck her. But at least I've not been hooked to her for a whole five months like Adam is to Eva.”
“And you get pissed when he only tells me things like this.” Lucas indicated dryly.
“To be honest, I still don't get why she's going to be most featured in your next exhibition.” Raul mused.
Scooting to the edge of the couch, he fanned out one of the pictures which were splayed on the table and looked at it admiringly.
“I must admit she's gorgeous. No doubt why she's got your pants all twisted up.” Alfredo commented. “Will you be going to her engagement party?”
“And what? Watch another guy put a ring on her finger? No, thanks.” The mere thought of it scorched his insides, and he clenched his fist around the glass he was holding, clamping tightly.
“The fuck, man.” Lucas was quick to snatch the glass from his grip before it could shatter, causing the scotch to slosh over the edges and spill on his shirt before he set it down on top of the drawer by the wall.
“Adam, I know you are all about being in control. That's why I think you should go to the engagement party.” Raul opined, scrubbing his nails along his jaw. “Show her that you're in control of yourself even if you really aren't. Because Lord knows you did a terrible job at it last night.”
Adam cursed under his breath at the recollection of last night. Watching and unable to tear his gaze from Eva dancing and kissing and wrapped up in the arms of Brandon was all he could do to not storm over and show the man that she was his.
And Eva's eyes had trailed in his direction every once in a while, an indication that she was very much aware he was watching, exacting some kind of payback.
Prompted, he'd nearly stripped the woman who had been clinging to him all evening right against the wall just so Eva would see, and then he'd taken her to the bathroom and exerted all the sexual frustration Eva had been stirring up in him.
The look on Eva's face when he returned had assured him she detested seeing him with another woman. At least the feeling on that was mutaul.
Lucas placed a hand on Adam's shoulder, and Adam instinctively knew the man was going to deliver something poignant.
