Oooh more angst, and one more update? Yes! Try and guess what I was inspired by this chapter (Hint: check the quote). Have funnn!!!-😈
Logan couldn't sleep again. It was impossible, stifling even, to be in the same room as Janus. He didn't blame him of course, this could hardly be called his fault. But it was so terrible to be beside someone who he didn't and couldn't love.
That's why he was so quick to give up the bed. Logan certainly wouldn't be sleeping. He paced the passageways, anxious and worried. His father promised he could see Virgil again once everyone saw him married, but he knew his father too well to trust promises.
He was getting frustrated. Almost none of the passageways actually led to the dungeon. Smart of his family, he supposed. After all, who would visit a criminal, and without letting the guards know at least? But Logan couldn't tell the guards. Not only would they not let him in, they would tell his father and make everything worse. Logan sighed, leaning against the wall, which started to push open.
Logan jumped away, only to see it reveal an entrance to the dungeon. Logan nearly cried with joy. Virgil. He could see Virgil again. He tiptoed out, looking around for something to give him a better clarity. Logan spotted a window, moonlight shining through it, illuminating a small man in a purple and black cloak in the corner, apparently sleeping. He ran up to him, leaning on the bars.
"Virgil?" Logan whispered, but his heart thrummed with excitement. Virgil sat up, glaring at the wall behind him.
"What do you want?" Logan's heart sank at the cold tone. He looked down at the floor, fidgety and nervous.
"To see you," Logan whispered. "I missed you sunflower." Virgil turned to him, snapping.
"Really Logan? You came to see me? You said I assaulted you, said I hurt you, and have your father imprison me in this fucking cell, and you missed me?" Virgil rolled his eyes. "Fine, how about it violet?" He mocked. "What do you want me to say? That I love you? That I forgive you? Well I DON'T!" Virgil snapped, on the verge of angry tears. Logan flinched at the yelling. Normally if Virgil was mad he would try not yell, because Logan couldn't stand yelling.
But Virgil didn't care anymore. Logan bit his lip as Virgil yelled at him, taking it all. He deserved it anyway. He hurt Virgil and he could pay his price. He would pay his price. Virgil looked at Logan's engagement ring, not the locket around his neck, still hidden by the high collared shirt.
"And now you're getting married!" He said, furious. "Why don't you bring down your fiance so you can really rub it in my face?"
"We're already married," Logan mumbled. Virgil stopped for a second, standing up.
"I don't know why I'm surprised. Of course you would." Virgil scoffed. "Can't visit me until you're married," he mocked. Logan forced himself to talk, trying hard to look Virgil in the eye.
"That's what my father said. He's going to kill me if he catches me down here," He mumbled.
"Why? Worried you might be assaulted again?" He snapped. Logan accidentally snorted.
"I doubt very much if he would care. Only if it spoiled his reputation," Logan muttered, trailing off. When Virgil didn't respond, merely staring at him, Logan turned to him. "You do know who my father is, don't you?"
"You're lying, he clearly cares about you." (And that right there folks, is where the gaslighting implant starts to go off). Logan slowly shook his head.
"Not to that extent." Virgil rolls his eyes.
"I don't believe you."
"It's true." When Virgil didn't respond, Logan looked up awkwardly. "Did you get my message?" Virgil hissed at him.
"I did. But I didn't read it." Logan looked down more, hair falling in his face as he fiddled with the sleeve of his shirt.
"Oh." Virgil glared at him, turning away, dark hair and cloak obscuring his face from view. If Logan listened closer enough, he could swear he heard him crying.
"Just get out." Logan nodded quietly, heartbroken. He disappeared into the walls again, coming out on his floor, kneeling on the ground and sobbing quietly in a corner. He hated this, he hated everything, he just wanted Virgil but Virgil hated him and it was all his fault. Logan had always been weak and now he was weak in the time it mattered. He couldn't stand up to his father, and he hated himself for it. Now Virgil was gone.
"Who's crying?" Janus mumbled, half asleep from the bed. Logan tried to muffle his tears. He didn't need anymore weakness exposed. Janus sat up.
"Logan?" Logan looked away, trying to hide any evidence of his breakdown.
"Don't look at me like..." Logan trailed off.
"Like what?"
"Like I'm weak." Janus looked at him.
"You aren't weak for crying. You're human." Logan laughed dryly.
"That's what you think." Logan didn't let Janus respond, going into the bathroom, spending the rest of the night in tears and solitude.
