Hello once again! Here's another chapter, please enjoy!!! As always, revel in angst, and please let me know if you think Patton killed his mother-😈
Remy paced the halls of the bloodstained, empty manor. As one of the only servants left, it was technically his job to clean the blood, but every time he saw the bodies he just got sick with guilt that he vomited all over the floor. Most of the other servants simply dismissed him, preferring to deal with it on their own without vomit rather than with him and vomit.
However, he was now waiting outside Patton Hart's door, because he was told he had a very special reward for his information. Remy didn't know if that was a good or bad thing, given that he had told Patton of the uprising's plan but also let Logan and Emile Hart get kidnapped. Remy was exploding with anxiety and it was killing him. Finally he knocked.
"Come in," the voice of Patton Hart called. Remy took a deep breath, and stepped inside, expecting there to be a noose with his name on it. Instead, what he saw was somehow both leagues better and worse.
"Virgil?" Remy exhaled, seeing the patched up cloak as he walked forward fast, going up to the desk. "Oh gods, is it you?"
Patton smiled coldly, whirling the man around. The man struggled to catch himself with his chained up hands, arms and limbs thin as a sheet of paper. Remy leaned forward to help catch him.
"The one and only," Patton smiled coldly. Remy looked at the dark circles under Virgil's eyes, his messy black hair, the thinness of him.
"Oh my gods, Virgil. Are you okay?" Remy asked, hugging his brother. Virgil laughed dryly, the sound a painful one to hear, as though it attacked Virgil's throat on the way out.
"I've been better."
"I was so scared. I thought you were dead," he whispered. Virgil smirks slightly.
"Death can't get to me that easily. I'm okay. But what happened to you?" Virgil asked. Remy stared at him for a second.
"Huh?" Virgil gestured at him.
"You look awful." Remy felt his face, and was surprised when he felt a scar that ran across his face. It must have been intrusivity, he cut across his face before he escaped. Remy wasn't sure if it was intentional or not, but either way, he deserved it.
"There was an attack during the wedding," Remy explained. "One of the rebels cut my face." Virgil stared.
"Well you look like you haven't slept in weeks. Is your insomnia acting up again?" Remy shrugged, aware of how Patton was watching his every move, searching for weakness.
"Sort of?" Virgil slapped the side of his head gently.
"Remy, you know you have to take your meds."
"I can't afford them anymore Vee." Virgil sighed,
"Is it because I got arrested?" Remy sighed.
"No, I just have been earning less money lately." Virgil raised an eyebrow in suspicion.
"How many hours have you been working." Remy thought, exhausted.
"I don't know, twelve hours a day? Including weekends? Plus overtime," Remy said, drained. Patton had been working him to the bone, knowing he could use not only the leverage of Virgil but the desperation of money against Remy. With his insomnia it took hours to get to sleep, if he ever got to sleep at all. Lately he had just been laying in his bed, staring at the ceiling as he waited.
"And how much are you getting paid?" Virgil asked, frown deeping.
"Three dollars an hour," Remy mumbled. "Maybe more if I get a tip."
Virgil whirled around to face Patton, furious. Remy was too tired and stressed to stop him.
"You're going to kill him!" He snapped. Patton smiled serenely. "How dare you do this?"
"He made the active choice to do so. Your life is very expensive after all," Patton smiled. Virgil recoiled in disgust.
"You-"
"I've been using you as leverage? Yes, pay attention Mr. Black. Mr. Nox has been quite the informat for me, telling me all about that dreadful attack on the wedding. Do you know my entire family was lost that day?" Patton said. Virgil gasped, tears pricking at his eyes. Oh no, Logan couldn't be, he wasn't-
"They all died?"
"Nope," Remy muttered, rolling his eyes, leaning on Virgil. Patton smiled.
"No, just my mother. Now my husband and son on the other hand, were kidnapped by the horrible people who incited that rebellion." Virgil exhaled. Thank the gods. Logan was leagues safer with them then he was with Patton. Now he had something new to focus on thanks to his reconciliation with Logan. Saving himself and Remy.
Remy rolled his eyes.
"Wasn't the Lady poisoned my lord?" Patton smiled with an almost fake sadness.
"Yes, unfortunate how these things happen. It's a pity. She'll be missed." Virgil's eyes met Pattons. "Just as you both will be soon." Remy's eyes widened, backing away.
"You're going to kill me," Remy whispered in fear. Patton smiled coldly.
"Not quite."
