Ah, yes...
Western society
The greatest place on earth
The soundest of living conditions
The so-called happiest people
They call it the "American Dream"
We have the biggest houses
The fanciest cars
The grandest technology
The most money
The most power
The most recognition
People say they'd give everything to live here
And I totally get that
But in my personal opinion
There is no "American Dream"
All I see are people being turned like robots
Told what to say
Told what to wear
Told what to act like
The unwritten rules here are countless
Guys are ridiculed for showing emotions
Girls are criticized if they express their sexuality
Gays and transgenders are preyed upon like vultures
Is it really possible to be your true, authentic self here?
Or am I just being ungrateful and not acknowledging my privilege?
Because the truth is...
I don't want to live here anymore
As petty and selfish as that sounds
You know what I want?
To get lost in the Amazon rainforest
To eat the finest waffles in all of Belgium
To make love on hotel balconies
To chase the sun and not worry about tomorrow
To run with the kids in the African village
To sail the greatest seas
To lose myself in new cultures
To eat different foods
To speak other languages
To escape the never-ending cycle of being told what to do
So I'm grabbing my ID
I'm driving to the airport
I'm getting on that plane
And I'm never...ever looking back
