Suck it, Parker

Once I opened the door I saw his signature cocky smile. It was the same smile that he had once always greeted me with, except this time, he wasn't looking at me.

I had spent the previous night praying and begging every God I could think of to keep Peter Parker as far away from me as possible. Of course, it had been a complete waste of my time. I would say that I have the worst luck in the world, but my brother Joaquin had stolen that title from me once he met his girlfriend's 'progressive' parents. For some reason they weren't too fond of his thick Dominican accent, disguised under his noticeably tattooed body. Nethertheless, I came at a close second once I realised where I was standing.

"Are you planning on standing there all day?"
said Mr Reynolds, cutting my thoughts short.

"Miss De Leon, I asked you a question,"

I observed the turning heads focusing their gazes on me, still standing in the doorway. I had always hated the first day of school, but this, this was just the cherry on top of what I was sure was going to be the shittiest year of my life.

"I was just admiring the new displays in your class sir, they're breathtaking." I said sarcastically.

"Don't patronise me Reyna, I don't find your sarcastic humour amusing," he replied, "Take a seat."

I shifted my eyes and they met Peter's. Our awkward interaction didn't cause him to drop that cocky smile of his, in fact his smile grew even more as his eyes outlined the entirety of my body. He slowly brushed his tongue over his bottom lip and I couldn't help but look. I remembered how soft his lips felt against mine, how gently he would kiss my neck...how weak I felt at his touch.

I looked around the room, but my fate had already been set. It was already unlucky enough that we ended up in the same class together, now as I scanned the room for empty seats, I could only spot two: the seat directly next to him and the seat directly behind.

I pushed my thoughts aside and kept walking, making a point to ignore his intense stare. I dropped my things on the desk behind him and pulled out the worn-out school chair that would now belong to me for the rest of the year.

"We don't have to be enemies Reyna," Peter said, turning his head to face me.

Part of me knew that was true, to be honest we were never really even together — I guess not officially. Our summer romance was short lived once we couldn't get past our own egos, we were both flawed and eccentrically full of ourselves, but at least I could admit that. Maybe being mature and leaving what had happened between us in the past was smarter, but then he ruined my evolving train of thought by muttering the phrase:

"I'll forgive you and we can just move on."

Forgive me? What on earth was I supposed to feel sorry about? He could never stomach the fact that maybe he wasn't the smartest person in the room for once! Our teacher might have been a complete moron and stood no chance against Peter, but me? I was effortlessly superior. I saw that he wanted to put me on edge, get a reaction out of me — but I wasn't going to give him that satisfaction.

"Suck it Parker."

I felt better already. He laughed so I knew the comment didn't bother him, but I also couldn't care less. I watched him as he turned back around to face Mr Reynolds and rip a piece of paper from his notebook, scribbling something on it. I wasn't surprised when his arm extended towards me and dropped the small folded note on my desk.

I looked down at it and saw a crown drawn on the papers exterior. It was a pretty shit drawing , but personally I didn't find anything he did particularly impressive. I assumed the crown was a reference to my name (which meant queen in Spanish with some creative license when it came to the spelling). The note was still on my desk, waiting to be opened and read, but something told me that opening the note, was like opening a door for Peter Parker to enter back into my life, and in that moment I hadn't decided if I wanted that or not...
