Irina never thought she'd fall in love.
Most men she met were stupid and too easily charmed by a pretty face. The others were either already taken—Irina refused to be second to another woman—or she'd have to leave them behind once her work was done.
Karasuma fell in the last category.
And Irina knew, she knew, that the only possible ending was a tragedy, but it was a year-long mission and she had gotten too used to the kids and her colleagues and their weird classroom.
So, for the first time in her life, she let herself hope.
