This new year was Irina's first with Karasuma, and it introduced her to a Japanese tradition—Hatsumode, the year's first shrine visit.

Since she moved in with Karasuma, Irina often went to the nearby shrine so she knew the customs, but there was a difference now.

She had to write her new year's wish on a wooden plaque and leave it at the shrine.

Easy... if only she knew what to wish for.

Forgiveness? Peace? Happiness? They didn't feel right to ask for someone like her, not yet.

Finally, she decided.

Please keep Karasuma and our students safe. -Irina Jelavić
