Penelope's POV:
He stood in front of me. Tall, skinny and pale. "What do you want!?" i yelled to him. He said nothing. He raised his wand and pointed it at me. I quickly grabbed mine, "Expelliamus!" i yelled flicking my wand. His wand fell from his hand and raised mine at him again. "Riddikulus!" i yelled, and soon enough, the dark lord shrunk down into his cloth robe and out crawled a small white mouse that ran beneath a bush. I ran past it as fast as i could go grab the stone. And there it was sitting on a tree stump. My key to winning the next trail. I knew i hadn't won this one because i stopped to help Todd. But at least Lucy won. She deserved it. I ran back from the forest and joined all the others on the field. As i limped out of my path everyone screamed and cheered. Dumbledore was holding Lucy's hand high up in the air, congratulating her on her big win. I smiled as i looked at her happy face. I looked into the crowd, skimming for Draco, but i didn't see him.
-
We were all back in the common room, and i still hadn't seen Draco. I walked over to Crabbe and Goyle to ask if they have seen him. "Hey, do you guys know where Draco is?" i asked. "Yeah, i think i saw him walking to the room of requirement after the tournament" Crabbe said. The room of requirement? why would he be there? I left the common room and started down the hall. I came to the entrance of the room of requirement. It wasn't open and i couldn't get in. "Please. i need to talk to Draco" i said, and the doors started to open. I smiled and went in. i saw him sitting on the table with his head in his hands. "Hey, what are you doing in here?" i asked, he jumped up, startled. "Oh, nothing. You should go" he said abruptly. "Where'd you go after the trial? i didn't see you when i came out" i said. He looked me up and down, focusing on the bandage around my calve. "What happened?" he asked coming closer to me with a concerned look on his face. "one of my Boggart's, it was a snake. I was always scared of becoming a Slytherin" i said. "But seriously what's going on with you? is everything okay?" i asked teaching for his hand. but he moved away. "Nothing Penelope, just go" he said. "No Draco. not until you tell me what's wrong. i'm worried about you" i said placing my hand gently on his shoulder. "I said go!" he yelled. i was taken back. what was wrong with him. "What is wrong with you? I thought we were past this? I though we both decided that we liked each other and we were going to give this a shot. Why are you being so cold?" i asked angered. "Because Penelope. You wouldn't understand" he said. "How do you know that? you haven't even given me a chance, i can't understand what i don't know. I'm done with the secrets Malfoy. I want to know. I wanna know what you were talking to Pansy about the other day, what happened between you and your dad, where you went after the tournament. i want answers" i demanded. "you know what penelope? this isn't going to work. I told you that there's just some things i can't tell you and you can't respect that so i'm done" he yelled. "I can respect it Draco, but if you want to make this relationship work you have to at least meet me half way" i said. "This is over Penelope. Now leave" he demanded. He wasn't even looking at me, he was looking down this whole time. What was happening? I thought things were going to be different. "Fine. Fuck you Malfoy" i said storming out.

Draco's POV:
i felt my face getting hot and tears forming in my eyes. I didn't want to push her away. It was the last thing i wanted to do. I just couldn't risk putting her in danger. So what if she hates me. At least she'll be safe.

Penelope's POV:
I am so done with his games. Tears streamed down my face as a stormed back to the common room. I ran up the stairs and into my room, thankfully Pansy wasn't there. i laid in my bed as my hot salty tears stained my pillowcase. I shouldn't be distracted with this boy. I had the second trial tomorrow and i still need to figure out how to get the clue from my stone. I set it down on my side table and started trying a various amount of spells on it.
-
an hour past and i couldn't figure it out. I ended up drifting off to sleep, frustrated that i wouldn't have a hint for the trial tomorrow. The next morning i woke up and started to get ready for 2nd trial. I picked up my rock off my side table but accidentally dropped in on to the floor. It cracked open into 2 pieces, and sticking out of one of the halves, was a small slip of paper with something written on it. "Come seek us where our voices sound, We cannot sing above the ground, An hour long you'll have to look, To recover what we took." What could that possibly mean. I knew that i needed help to decode the message. So i decided to ask the smartest person i knew.
-
I walked into the Library and to no surprise saw Cedric sitting at a table surrounded with books. i walked over to him and sat down. He looked up at me, and then back to his book, ignoring me. "Cedric, i know that things are weird between us right now and-" i started and he cut me off, "weird? no no, it's not weird that you led me on for almost a month, and then i found out you were in love with Malfoy" he said rolling his eyes. "I'm not in love with him. And we're not together anymore. Things didn't end well" i said. "Pff, that's no surprise. He's an asshole" he said. I looked down, upset at the thought of what happened between draco and i. Cedric noticed that he made me upset, "hey, i'm sorry. it's just, i don't know how someone like you could ever settle for someone as horrible as him" he explained. "I don't know Cedric, he was different with me. He was kind, and sweet, and considerate. I really thought he cared about me" i said. "Well he's an idiot. So why are you here?" he asked. "I need your help with something" i said. "What is it?" he asked curiously. "it's about the Tri-Wizard tournament. I found my hint for the second trial but i have no clue what it means" i said holding out the small slip of paper from inside of the stone. "Come seek us where our voices sound, We cannot sing above the ground, An hour long you'll have to look, To recover what we took" he read. "So what do you think?" i asked him. "Hey Penelope, just one question" he started and nodded him to continue on with his question. "Why me? why do you think i can help? i thought you wanted nothing to do with me" he said seeming so upset. I felt terrible for what i did to him. I know it wasn't right. "First, Cedric you're one of the smartest wizards i know, i figured you've read something that could maybe help. And as for the second part, that couldn't be farther from the truth. I want you in my life still Cedric, just not in that way. I did like you. A lot, but as i said, things were different with Draco. He was different" i explained. He smiled a bit and then went back to his books, looking for something that could help us. He picked up a book titled "unknown creatures of the Black Lake". He flipped through some pages and stopped at a chapter on 'Selkies'. "what's that?" i asked him. "I think this is the trial for tomorrow. It's said that they decent from traditional Irish Scottish folklore. Selkies are mythological beings capable of therianthropy, changing from seal to human form by shedding their skin. They sing under the water to lure people under" he read. "so what? i have to be able to breath underwater for the entire trial? how is that even possible?" i asked. He pulled out another book on herboligy. He flipped to a page he had already had book marked and pointed to a picture of a green plant at the top of the page. "Gilly weed?" i asked confused towards how a plant would help me breath under water. "Yes, When it is eaten by a witch or wizard, one grows gills and webbing between the fingers and toes, allowing them to process oxygen from water and navigate underwater more easily" he explained. i smiled, "you're a genius!" i exclaimed hugging him.
-
It was time for the second trial. Cedric and i were walking together to the docs, "here, eat it now" he said handing a large piece of gilly weed. i took one bite and nearly threw up. "what the fuck cedric this tastes like poison" i said about to spit it out. "no! eat the whole thing. you want to be able to last the entire trial right?" he said. i sulked as i ate the rest of the dreaded plant. We got to the docs and walked past everyone. I saw draco out of the corner of my eye. He was already looking at me, but when i locked eyes with him, he looked away. He seemed weird, he was scratching his arm vigorously. As mad as i was at him, i still wanted him to be okay. Lucy, Todd, and I, all stood at the edge of the docks waiting for the gunshot. "All three of you will dive into the depths of the lake to find something that you had lost" Dumbledore said. The gunshot rang out and we all dove in. I swam as fast as i could to the bottom of the lake looking around for what i needed to find. Next to me, i saw Todd, his head was shark like, and his fingers and toes were webbed. I looked down at myself and saw mine were webbed as well, along with gill slits in the side of my face. Deeper towards the bottom of the lake i saw it. It was Ginny, floating with a strand of seaweed tied to her ankle. Her face was water logged and deformed. I swam further down my her entangled ankle and freed her of the seaweed. She started slowing floating up and i went with her but stopped when i heard a muffled scream come from below me. i looked down to see if it was Todd or Lucy. I saw quickly that it wasn't Todd, as his shark morphed body shot up out of he water with his person on his arm. I looked down as the screaming continued. As Ginny floated to the surface, i untied lucy's person and they floated eith her, as i dove deeper to find out where the screams were coming from.

Draco's POV:
I saw the guy from Durmstrang shoot out of the water. He won the second trial. I looked around the water for Penelope, but didn't even see her coming to the surface. Then, Lucy's person floated up. The trial was already 20 minutes in, and i was getting worried. Todd jumped onto he dock, his other friends from Durmstrang high fiveing and congratulating him, i ran over to him, "hey did you see Penelope down there?" i asked frantically. "No, sorry mate" he said. Fuck.

Penelope's POV:
I looked down and the webs on hand were gone, i felt my neck and the gills were fading. The gilly weed was wearing off. But i had to find lucy, i knew something was wrong. In the distance i saw her limp body turned over and pale in the water. I screamed as tears streamed down my face, absorbed by the water of the lake. She was gone. I didn't get to her fast enough. I started swimming back up to the surface, my throat tightening at the lack of air i had left. I felt my head getting fuzzy as i reached the surface. I felt the cold air touch my face as got up. My breathing fast and heavy, out of breath and crying. "Penelope!" i heard a voice yell. Draco's voice. My vision was blurring and i felt like i couldn't swim. I paddled to the edge of the dock and Draco grabbed my hand pulling me up. he put his arms around me, pushing the wet strands of hair from my face. "are you okay!? what happened?" he asked frantically with deep concern in his eyes. "Lucy- she, she's gone" i cried. He looked out on the water and didn't see anyone. The crowd started screaming, realizing what had happened. I cried into Draco's shoulder as he held me close.
-
I was in the common room, in my sweats, my hair still cold and wet, sitting along, blankly staring into the fire. I can't believe Lucy was gone. I couldn't help but blame myself. I should have gone down to her quicker. Even in front of the fire, i was still shaking. I heard footsteps down the stairs into the common room. i didn't bother to see who it was. They sat down next to me, and surely enough, beside me sat the boy with the silver eyes. He started scratching his arm through his hoodie. "How're are you feeling?" he asked. "Fine. But you can go" i said looking back into the fire. "Pen-" he started but i cut him off. "Draco i am done constantly exhausting myself trying to figure you out" i said. "I trusted you. And i thought that we had something. You made me feel like no one ever had before. But now, i'm done getting hurt whenever you just decide you want to push me away" i said. He looked at me silently, regret and remorse in his eyes. "I'm sorry" he said getting up. He walked back upstairs to his room and i said on the couch, staring at the fire.
