"COURTNEY, GET UP!" My mom screamed from downstairs. I fell out of bed, hitting my head on my dresser, and groaned in irritation.
"I'M UP!" I screamed back.
"YOU'LL BE LATE FOR SCHOOL!" she sounded like a screeching vulture. I groaned and pushed myself onto my feet and got changed. After that I grabbed my books, slid on my contacts and glasses, and went downstairs. Dad sat at the table reading the newspaper and drinking coffee. Mom was at the stove making bacon and eggs.
"Morning family," I said and kissed dad on the cheek.
"Morning sweetheart." He said.
"Morning Court, everything ready for school?" Mom asked.
"Yes." I replied discreetly.
"You have your homework?" she asked.
"Yes."
"Your lunch?"
"I buy my lunch."
"How about extra tampons? It's that time of the month." She had to be kidding me.
"Mom!"
"Court." Dad warned. I huffed and sat down. Mom set food in front of me and I thanked her with a head nod, then I started eating.
"Big day Courtney?" Mom asked.
"I have a busy day with my science paper and my art exhibition after school today." I replied.
"Oh yeah, how's your black and white flower coming?" Dad asked. I reached into my bag and pulled out the canvas, covered in the elegant black background with the white flower in the middle.
"All finished," I replied proudly.
"Wow, that's may be some of your best work Court." he said.
"Thanks. Are you guys coming to my show later?" I asked as I put it away.
"Wouldn't miss it." mom replied.
"I agree. We'll be there. What time is it?" Dad asked.
"3:40." I replied.
"Oh no!" Mom gasped. Oh no, here it comes.
"What is it now?" I asked, waiting for the big excuse.
"My shift doesn't end until 6:30 today." she replied. I rolled my eyes. There's the punch.
"Okay well um...what time does the exhibition end?" Dad asked.
"Five." I replied in a bored tone.
"Well, I'll be there, and honey I'll take pictures and you can see everything." He said.
"Oh honey, you're so sweet." Mom said and gave him a kiss. I mentally gagged and quickly gobbled up my breakfast.
"Okay well I'm gonna go because I'll be late." I said, thus breaking them apart.
"Oh well yes, have a good day sweetheart, I'll see you around 3:40." Dad said. I smiled and headed for the door.
"Later!" I called and ran out. I skipped all the way to the edge of the block, where my best friend Ashlyn was parked with her little, red Honda. I would have usually taken my own car, to school but I got a flat tire but running over a nail the other day and everything went downhill from there.
"Hey, hey, hey." She said.
"Sup." I said and hopped in the passenger's seat.
"The sky." She joked. I chuckled and slipped off my glasses and slipped on my contacts, Ashlyn started the engine and we started driving to school
