"NO! ABSOLUTELY NOT!" Tess shouted.
"Courtney's an adult now, she has a choice to do this," I argued.
"She won't be an adult for another few months Charlie! How could you suggest something like this, and knowing the risks?" she asked.
"What risks would there be exactly?" I asked.
"The fact that we may lose her forever!" she exclaimed.
"Courtney is going to move out some day," I argued.
"That doesn't mean she should do it now!" she shouted.
"Think about Courtney; she's old enough to be doing things like this on her own. I know she'll be alright with this," I said.
"So, you want to lose our daughter to your ex?" she asked.
"Of course not, but she's not a little girl anymore. Remember the saying; if you love something that much...than set it free. Tess, one of these days Courtney is going to fly free from us and we have to except that. It's a part of life," I replied. Tess sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose.
"Do you really think this will do her some good?" she asked.
"Yes, I do," I replied calmly.
"Alright, let's go to the stupid court house," she said and grabbed her coat.
"Thank you," I said and did the same.
Courtney
After six hours of driving Amelia pulled up to the courthouse. As we got out I instantly recognized my parents red Chevrolet aveo. Let the hell begin.
"Come on sweet heart, this'll be over quickly I promise," Amelia said. We went inside the courtroom where my parents were talking with a woman. She looked like she was Indian, in her early forties and wore a blue business suit. her black hair was cut into a bob and curled at the ends with a red dot on her forehead. I think that has something to do with religion?
"Courtney, how wonderful to meet you. I'm Shagra Mengal," the woman said to me, she didn't have an Indian accent.
"Hi," I said awkwardly and shook her hand. I met eyes with my parents.
"Hi Courtney," Dad said.
"Hello," I said quietly.
"Amelia, good to see you again," Dad said and shook her hand Amelia.
"How are doing Charlie," she greeted him. My 'mom' was glaring daggers at Amelia. What's her problem? Oh that's right, she's my real mom and dad had sex with her to have me. Get over it Tess!
