By the time Jaken caught up with the dragon mount, Kairii was tired of the silence. Sesshomaru's pace remained relentless, and his refusal to speak to her was starting to bother her. She'd tried bringing up their previous discussion. After all, there had been no true conclusion. There never was, not right away. Every world had people who had to see her future-seeing ability to believe in the pain it caused. That was why she'd stopped outright telling them about it. So, knowing Sesshomaru had borne witness to it, and wasn't exactly pleased by what she'd said, she thought he might want to talk about it. But he remained silent, and even refused to look at her. It was disheartening. But then again, Sesshomaru was still in the very beginning of his long journey, and he hadn't met the single most pivotal character to his path. And he wouldn't for a while. Several things had to happen first, the first of which she'd mentioned. Totosai. But...to his mind, she was a demon. This couldn't have to do with her obvious humanity.
"Sesshomaru." she deliberately omitted his title, because it was guaranteed to get his attention.
"Woman!" Jaken squawked, "Surely you remember I told you to address our Lord by title at all times!" Sesshomaru slowly halted, but did not turn his head.
"I will leave, if that is your wish." she said, ignoring the collar that tightened invisibly around her neck. Silence followed. There was only the stirring of the wind through the grasses of the plains they now walked. Jaken looked between them, looking confused and alarmed as he saw the pain and resolve on Kairii's face. She would die if she did not stay and serve Sesshomaru. So be it. This world was not the only one she'd walked. And if he refused to even speak of the abilities she had, after testing her, then their relationship could go no further and she would be cast away eventually. He had to get over the fact that he could not ask her about the future without torturing her. And since she knew his character so well, she knew that even now, before his path took a gentler turn that led to his growth as a whole, he would not torture a woman for something that may or may not be relevant.
"Ride the dragon mount's back." Sesshomaru's deep voice was calm and quiet, "You have use to me." She knew that was supposed to be the equivalent of high praise, especially based on the way Jaken gawked at her, but it wasn't satisfactory.
"And when will we address the conversation we had before?" she asked, "No matter what you say, it is not settled." Slowly, Sesshomaru turned to face her.
"Those books are meaningless to me." he said, his face impassive and his eyes molten with anger. Anger? What had she done to piss him off? She expected annoyance from him regarding her bold words.
"What I said from them is not." she took a step closer to him, "Those books are paper you cannot read, that I can. And you want to know every word on every page, don't you?" his eyes narrowed slightly.
"They do not all pertain to myself." he said.
"True." she said, "That does not mean you don't want to know what does. I have dealt with others wanting the same thing. It is not unique." one moment he was looking at her with slightly narrowed eyes. The next he was towering over her, glaring vehemently at her. She flinched, she couldn't help it, but squared off against him, crossing her arms mostly so he would know her temper did not mean she would attack him. She couldn't have him actually choosing to dismiss her for reasons that had nothing to do with her abilities.
"I do not want you to read another word from those books." he said coldly, startling her. "Not if it equates your death." she was dumbfounded, standing there speechless. He didn't want to know the future because she told him she had no idea how long she'd live if he asked the future? Granted, she had been hospitalized for some of her prophecies, but why did he care? He barely let her tag along.
