Three days of silence could wear on the nerves, that was certain. But Kairii had endured it before. Mainly off the strength of her own wandering mind. Three days of Jaken trying to teach her what it meant to be a good servant, hiding the wound that was taking far too long to heal, and following in the wake of a man she couldn't help admire the backside of, that was hell.
"I get it!" she said to Jaken, stopping his tirade. It was that or yell at Sesshomaru for her being unable to dismiss her feelings. Her attraction had only grown stronger, and with InuTaisho's superior sniffer, which she'd asked to borrow, his aphrodisiac of a scent was doing all kinds of things to her dreams and wandering imagination. Sesshomaru came to a halt.
"Is there a problem?" he said coolly, "Kai?" she stiffened a little, and then sighed.
"I know how to serve, Sesshomaru-sama." she said, "If I didn't, I knew how yesterday. This babbling is exhausting, and a waste of time. I'm smart when I put my mind to it." Jaken's jaw dropped open.
"That is no way to talk to milord! I told you, if you must call him by 'sama', do not put that tone into it!" Jaken huffed loudly.
"I'm not dead." she replied, "I will have a tone when I speak."
"Then change it to one less fond, or call him 'lord'!" Jaken snapped.
"Fond?" Kai blinked. Um...did she address him fondly?
"Jaken." Sesshomaru said, "That is enough." Jaken jolted and then began bowing on his knees.
"Yes, milord! I deeply apologize!" he said. Sesshomaru kept walking. Kai caught up to his side. It was better than watching how his hips moved. Unfortunately, it gave her a side profile view, which drew her eyes to the extensions of his legs, the way he carried himself, chin tilted proudly. A fine, fine demon, he was.
"Sesshomaru-sama, do I sound fond when I address you?" she asked.
"Do as you please. I don't care." Sesshomaru said as Jaken ran to catch up to them. She frowned a little. That wasn't an answer. Oh well. She couldn't sound too fond. He was OK with it, after all. Silence fell like thick clouds and fog. She inwardly sighed. One couldn't just start a conversation with their lord, apparently. It was one of the many rules Jaken had lectured into her brain. A damned shame, she was getting tired of the quiet.
"Tell me of your ability." Sesshomaru's voice caught her off guard.
"Which one?" she asked.
"You told me earlier that you borrowed energy from a demon lord." he said, "Now you carry that same energy."
"Yeah." she smiled a little at the sky, "The bones of his body still contain vestiges of his power. So, I asked if he would lend me his power in order to find you again."
"You simply need ask?" he asked.
"Huh?" she blinked, "Uh, no. It's just, he's dead. Asking is about all I can do." and having a ghost pass her power in the mockery of a kiss was still unsettling. "I always ask before I borrow power." it was right, to her. Even if the person had no idea what she'd use it for.
"Yes, it is true!" Jaken said, "She asked that strange human with Lord Inuyasha to borrow her power before taking it!"
"I see." Sesshomaru said, "And how does the ability itself work?"
"Well, I have to place my mouth somewhere on them." she said it as simply as she could, "Most effectively would be mouth to mouth, I suppose, since in essence I am copying and replicating the energy they themselves carry in their souls, since they don't lose power to the process. Once I do that, I absorb the essence of their power and make it my own." she touched her hair, glancing at the way it faded from red to white at the bottom, "It would appear that I gain a physical likeness of the one I copied as well, as my hair will dye itself from tip to root accordingly." Sesshomaru's eyes narrowed ever so slightly.
