That could have ended a lot worse than it had. Kairii sighed in relief, using her reflection to check the bruises forming around her neck. Yep, he was merciless. Her being essentially human did not make it any better. If anything, Sesshomaru had seemed annoyed that she was human, not demon. But he'd given her a chance. She sighed, looking at the stars. Prove her worth, huh? As in, prove she was useful, or prove she was strong? If it was the first, she'd given him power to heal. That was useful. But if it was to prove she was strong...damn it, did she actually have to deliberately seek a fight with a powerful demon and win in order to get him to let her follow him?! She huffed a breath. She didn't want to fight. But that was a stupid desire.
Every world required fighting. There was a plot, and conflict drove the plot. So, yeah. She'd have to fight eventually. But she could avoid it. Except, that might be the only way to make Sesshomaru accept her.
She let out another sigh, this one aggravated and put out. Damn him for loving power and fighting so much. She adjusted her kimono, since she'd hastily thrown it on, and began to follow Sesshomaru's trail. She needed to keep up with him, keep an eye on him. She'd spy a chance eventually. In the meantime, his demonic energy would cloak whatever energy she was releasing. She blinked when she realized that she would eventually come across Inuyasha and Kagome again. Great. And they'd have Miroku with them this time, as well as Shippo. But first would come Naraku. And until Sesshomaru gave up on retrieving the Tetsusaiga, she'd have run ins with the main story a lot more frequently. She'd have to help him eventually. She blinked as she remembered one more character. A character she would have to be blind to Sesshomaru's needs for.
Great. Even if she did prove herself, having to be oblivious to Sesshomaru's injuries when he met Rin was sure to piss him off, unless she could make herself seem absolutely oblivious. Like...if she was following Jaken. Yes, that would work. Sesshomaru couldn't blame her for following Jaken's lead trying to find him. She didn't have heightened senses, and probably wouldn't for quite some time.
Three men landed in the path around her. Great. Another complication. One that suggested Sesshomaru was long gone. Well, she was following his trail. The three men were dressed like samurai, as per this era, and they'd pulled out their swords, their grins foul and sneering.
"Look at that." one leered, sizing her up, "A pretty little miss." she glanced down at herself. Her wet skin had stuck her kimono to her body in places. She sighed.
"I don't have time for bandits." she said, "Move, would you?" they shifted closer. Great. She was going to have to fight now. Thankfully, her ability to see the future would help. The world wouldn't deliberately kill her, so it gave her a ten second warning before an attack. She could predict someone's swing, and their next few moves, the moment they showed her aggression. Problem with Sesshomaru was that he hardly ever showed actual aggression before acting on his own whim. So she couldn't avoid his attacks. Well, she could if he showed aggression beforehand. But he was fast too, so that was a problem.
"Someone's a stuck up little lady." one of the other bandits said. "What do you say we cut her down to size?"
"If we want any enjoyment from her, we'll have to aim carefully." the third sneered. She huffed a breath.
"Get out of my way." she said, "I don't plan on killing today." the men balked at her cold tone, and then narrowed their eyes.
"You?!" the first man raised his sword. A downward stroke, followed by a side swing. Then she'd have to dodge the second man who came from behind. The third would be easy to disarm if she kicked him in the gut when she dodged the second man. "Kill us?! Don't make me laugh!" he brought the sword down, but she was already dancing out of the way. She jolted backwards to avoid the side swing, and then ducked to the side, yanking her skirt out of the way at the same time she lashed her bare foot into the third's gut. Grasping his sword, she yanked it from his hand and shifted her stance to brace.
