It's 8am on a Wednesday.
I hate Wednesdays.
I'm awoken to the sound of a horn honking repeatedly outside my window, followed by shouting from a voice that could be none other than my best friends.
"Wake up dumbass! We're going to be late. Come on! Get up, Get up, Let's get rolling!"
I slowly sit up and rub my head, groaning as I wrestle with my hair, struggling to get it to stay the way I want it. I glance over to the clock on my dresser and stare at it for a moment before it hits me that I overslept again.
"Shit! I'm sorry! I'll be down in a minute!" I call out the window before quickly getting up and scampering to my closet. I slip on a black sweatshirt, pulling it down over myself as fast as I can before grabbing a pair of jeans and doing the same. I move back over to the other side of my room, digging around in my dresser to find a pair of socks, grabbing my red converse and dashing down the stairs towards the door.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry.." I apologized as I ran out of my house with my bag on my shoulder, climbing into the passenger seat of Emerson's navy blue Jeep Wrangler. His parents got it for him as a 16th birthday gift and he always made sure to keep the interior smelling good. It's like a mix of fresh air and coconuts. I inhaled the refreshing scent as I got situated, dropping my bag at my feet and quickly slipping on my shoes before shutting the door.
"No worries.." he chuckled as he shook his head, motioning for me to put on my seatbelt. I quickly nodded as he adjusted himself in his seat and laughed some more, "That's the 5th time this month slowpoke..." he poked my sides a bit and I laughed, pushing his hands away playfully before leaning back in the seat, "You were having a good dream again, weren't you?"
"You know it.." I replied as he pulled out of my driveway, a small smile on my face as some of the dream came back to me. I turned to look out the window and I could feel him glance at me through the rearview mirror.
"Well aren't you going to elaborate? Who was it with this time? Me right?" He had a wide grin on his face as I turned to hit him lightly. I shook my head a bit and let out a quiet sigh, a smile on my face now too as I heard him laugh under his breath.
"Blah no thanks.." I said, sticking my tongue out a bit and pointing to it as if to signify gagging. "It was just a guy from a story I read the other day.." I waved my hand in the air to dismiss the thought as he turned his attention back to the road and nodded.
"I see, I see.." he said quietly as I reached to turn the volume on the radio up, noticing Emerson's outfit for the first time today. I bursted out laughing, shaking my head as I looked at him, "Dude come on! Shorts and a button up? It still feels like winter dude.." He huffed and for a moment I thought his face had turned a slight pink from embarrassment. "You trying to impress Brynn again..?" I turned my head to the side with a smirk.
"Man shut up." he groaned as he reached over to shove me, his eyes focused on the road still as we got closer to the school, "How many times do I gotta say I'm not into her. We are just. friends." Now it was his turn to fake a gag.
I let out another laugh and shrugged, "Well she's been all over you for like...ever." He shook his head as he pulled into the school parking lot, putting the car in park and pulling the keys out. We both hopped out of the car, throwing out bags on our back and started heading towards his little friend group who met up with us every morning.
"Ems!" Avery called out as she jumped up to hug him, greeting him the same as she did most mornings. She turned to me to say hello as Zed and Emerson did their usual handshake.
"Where's Brynn?" Emerson asked as he turned his head and Avery shrugged,
"Think she drank too much at a party last night.." The four of us laughed, knowing it was very likely.
"Makes sense.." Emerson said as he turned to ruffle my hair, I huffed, quickly trying to fix it.
"Speaking of parties, you down for Jack's on Friday..?" Zed grinned as Avery nodded quickly, both turning to Emerson as they waited for a response.
"Hell yeah.." He said with a grin, turning over to me, "You wanna tag along Kotie?"
I glared at him for a moment before smiling at the others, "Sorry guys, I'll have to pass, thanks though."
"Come on!" Avery pouted playfully as she reached forward to hold onto my shoulders, gently shaking me, "Please please please! Just this once..? I promise you'll have fun!" Zed nodded in agreement and I felt my face heat up.
"Parties aren't my thing..you know that.." I nudged Em on the side with the last part and he just laughed.
"It'll be good for you to get out of the house Kotie, take a break from your fictional world." he flicked my forehead with a grin, before it quickly fading into a soft smile. "He's in.." Em stated to the others before I got a chance to cut him off. Avery cheered as the bell rang and the two waved goodbye to head to their first class.
"I'll see you later DK" Em said as he held out his hand for our normal departure fist bump.
"Yeah later.." I replied with a small smile on my face as our knuckles bumped. I watched him walk into the crowd as I turned in the direction of my first class.
