kartik stayed at the hospital while he sent swarna back to the mansion as dadi was hyperventilating and no one was able to calm her down.

he sat at the benches with a blank face just thinking not even a fraction of seconds and everything got ruined.

the next morning when swarna arrived back at the hospital , she came with his clothes. "morning maa." he said.

"morning baccha. here are your clothes. go home and change. i'll be here." swarna assured him.

"maa , i don't want to leave. please-" she cut him off.

"i know you are not in a condition to face the family. that's why i bought the keys to yours and naira's flat. go there and change." swarna said.

kartik smiled at his mother's kind gesture. she was the one who understood him in this situation. till this date he feels guilty about how he treated her.

he even had some breakdowns just because of this but swarna was always there to calm him down.

"thank you maa." kartik sighed.

she nodded and he left. during the whole car ride , he was just thinking about naira. as he entered the flat , all the memories flashed in front of his eyes.

his eyes were filled with tears. he let some tears drop on his cheek. he locked the door and went to take a bath.

after he came out , he immediately went back to the hospital. as he was about to start the car his phone went off.

he saw a message from swarna.

i know you won't eat. i kept an apple in the bag. have it while on the way back.

he smiled seeing her concern and had the apple she gave him. when he reached the hospital , he had just finished his apple and tossed it in the trash can nearby.

he went upstairs and saw his mother sitting on the benches. "maa."

"before you say anything. yes , i had my apple and i just finished it before coming here." he chuckled lightly.

"had the doctors-" before kartik could complete he heard a loud crash coming from naira's room.

kartik and swarna shared a look before entering her room. they saw naira awake. the surroundings were messed up. things were scattered everywhere and the nurse was trying to calm her.

"m-mam , please calm down. w-we are here to help." the nurse said.

"f-first tell me why am i here? h-how-" kartik was shocked seeing naira in this state.

kartik rushed towards her and held her arms. "naira-naira. look at me. i will tell-"

naira cut him off. "who are you? leave me!"

kartik's fear came true. the doctor's words came true. she forgot him. she forgot everything.

"hey. it's okay. i'm your friend. just calm down. they are not going to hurt you." kartik spoke softly.

listening to his calm voice , naira calmed a bit. she followed kartik as he told her to copy his breathing.

"yeah , that's it. you're doing so well." he said.

soon her breathing was back to normal. kartik was controlling himself and trying not to cry.

"see , the doctors would be here soon. they are going to check you and make sure you're alright." kartik said and she nodded.

"very well. nurse? can you please call the doctor. maa , please come here." he called his mother.

"w-who are you? what's y-your name. i don't remember anything. i-" naira started to ramble but kartik cut her off.

"calm down first." she kept quiet.

"i am kartik. she is my mom. you got into an accident." he explained calmly.

she just nodded. naira sat their uncomfortably as , to her , kartik was a stranger.

the doctor entered her room and sensed some tension in the room. "kartik , i would request you to leave the room. i am going to check her up." kartik nodded and went out with swarna.

it was just the doctor and naira in the room. "hello naira. i am doctor sharma. how are you feeling?" he asked her very gently.

"i-i am fine. my head hurts though." she spoke timidly.

"no need to be scared naira. i am your doctor. tell me how much it hurts on the scale of 1-10?"

"9." she replied.

"alright. we will fix that." he turned around and did some changes in the monitor.

doctor sharma grabbed the stool nearby and sat on it. "now naira , you will have to listen to me carefully." she nodded but winced as a sharp pain shoot through her head.

"easy." he said.

"naira , you recently met with an accident a few days back. it wasn't something major until now. when you were unconscious , we took you for a mri scan. this part of your brain is swollen." he highlighted the areas in the scans.

she nodded as a sign for him to continue. "this has caused you to forget some years of your life or we can say you are suffering from amnesia. the swelling will eventually reduce , but your amnesia can take time."

naira was slowly digesting the fact that she had forgotten some years of her life. "i will advise you to stay away from stressful environment. also the man who was here a few minutes ago , was your husband. i know it might be hard for you but we can treat this."

"i will give him the reports and you will come here next week for your check up. right?" doctor sharma said and she nodded.

"now i am going to give you this injection , it'll help you with your headache." he said giving her the injection.

he left the room , not before calling a nurse. he saw kartik anxiously waiting for him.

"kartik. a minute please." he followed doctor sharma to his cabin.

"have a seat."

"look kartik. i told naira about her amnesia." kartik's eyes widened at this statement.

"look , this was necessary for her to know about this. seeing her condition improve , i told her this." the doctor said.

"what now sir?" asked kartik.

"look kartik , we don't know when her memory will be back but we can try bringing them by simple steps. i will be conducting weekly sessions for her. i will be assisting her. it would be asking her normal questions and everything in her routine." he explained.

"thank you doctor." kartik said.

"it is my job , kartik. i want to keep her over night to see if any complication arises or not. i gave the nurse he prescription , she will be back with her medicines and then i'll inform you about them." the doctor said.

kartik stood up and shook hands with the doctor before leaving his cabin. there he spotted swarna waiting for him.

"what did the doctor say?" she asked.

kartik explained her the whole situation of how doctor told naira about her amnesia. "he said that he wants to keep naira for a night."

"i will head home now. i can't keep hiding this from the family. naira has to come back there and stay." swarna told hin.

"alright maa. i will be here only." kartik hugged her.
