Christmas came again, and it had been over a year since Billie and Alyssa had split up. It was now the first Christmas I had ever spent with her.
"Alright, David's finally asleep." She told me, coming down the stairs. She was wearing a green sweater and she looked gorgeous in it.
"Oh, good." I replied.
She sat down beside me, and I put my arm around her waist.
"I love you." I told her as she latched onto me. I held her tighter.
"I love you more." she gushed, speaking in a flirty tone. I looked into her eyes for a moment, and she looked into mine. I was still totally smitten by her. "Oh, hey, we missed something.". She said, turning her gaze to under the christmas tree.
"Oh, yeah, that one's for you." I replied. She picked it up and tore off the shiny red wrapping, my heart beating out of my chest.
"No way!" She gasped, looking at the ring that was inside the small, white box. She slipped it onto her finger.
"Alyssa, I love you more than you'll ever know. Will you marry me?".
"Yes!" She cried as she flung my arms around me. "I always knew that we should've been together.".
"Me too." I said, taking her hand to look at the ring. "Look at that, perfect fit.".
She looked at me and smiled. I leaned in and our lips met. We kept kissing for a few moments, and I felt so lucky to have her.
"This is the best Christmas I've ever had!" she said. She went over to the window, and I followed her. I glanced outside, lights glowing up and down the street.
"I've loved you for a long time, Alyssa." I told her, putting my arm around her waist.
"I've loved you for a long time, too. Even before me and Billie split up." She replied.
"Same.".
"Oh, so you loved me even when you weren't stoned?".
"Of course I did." I said, pulling her closer to me and kissing her.
"Maybe we should take this upstairs." she said as we slowly separated.
"Yeah.". I lead her up the stairs, hand in hand, and in that moment, everything was perfect.
