Alyssa's p.o.v

Me and Mike stood together holding hands under the California  sun. It was a hot Saturday afternoon in July, and we were in our backyard with Tre, Billie, Adrienne, who was now his wife, and David, who was now seven years old.

"Look at me!" David shouted, doing a handstand in the green grass.

"That's great, Ziggy!" I replied. We all called him Ziggy, it was kind of bound to happen considering he was named after David Bowie. "Man, he's growing up so fast. It seems like just yesterday he was born".

"Yeah, he really is growing up fast, hey?" Adrienne said.

"He wants to learn how to play guitar. Says he wants to be like Billie.".

"Oh, really, he wants to be like me? Well, that's great!" Billie laughed. Adrienne smiled at him and put her arm around his shoulders. I could tell by the way they looked at each other that they really lobed each other. They were meant to be together.

I looked over at David. He was so full of life. Just watching him play made me smile.

"He sort of reminds me of myself when I was a kid." Billie said.

"Then , Mike and Alyssa, I guess your hands must be pretty full." Tre replied, and we all laughed.

"Not as full as your mom's hands would've been when you were a kid, Tre!" I said. More laughter.

"What are you laughing about?" David asked, running up to me.

I looked at Mike, and we both smiled.

"Nothing, David." I said.

"Nothing? Well, okay. Hey, mom, can I have something to drink?"

"Of course. I'll go and get some water for everyone." I replied. I headed inside and grabbed a pitcher. I filled it with water and put some ice in it.

I came back outside, set the pitcher down on a table and poured everyone some water.

When I first met Billie, I had never thought that in nine years I would be married to his best friend, and that we would have a son. I had thought that we would be together forever and that our marriage would be perfect. But, that wasn't the case. Me and Mike weren't perfect for each other, but I knew he loved me, and he knew I loved him, and it just worked out well. Now, here we all were, hanging out together and having a good time. It was unpredictable, but in the end, I knew it was right.
