Madison had woken up bright and early for once, the clock beside her bed reading that it was barely eight in the morning. She sat up in bed and stretched her arms over her head, a deep sigh falling from her slightly chapped lips. "Today is going to be a great day." She muttered to herself, holding onto hope that it would be.
She threw the covers off her body and slid out of bed before she walked over to her bedroom windows and pulled the curtains open to let in the sunshine. It was a beautiful day in Cleveland. Birds were flying around in the trees, kids were riding bikes and running through their front yards.
Maybe today would be her day. Maybe for the first time in a long time, she would be able to smile and actually mean it for once. She moved away from the window and walked out of her room before heading down the stairs to find her brother and Rook sitting on the couch, Rook in the process of rolling a blunt.
"Another wake and bake session, Rookie?" She asked the boy who had quickly become her best friend in the entire world when he got the job to work with her brother. He glanced up at her with his million dollar smile and nodded as if it were a normal thing to him, which it was.
"You know it. You gonna join in this time, M?" He asked her, figuring that she would say no just like every other time he had asked her. She was the type to tolerate the fact that everyone in the house smoked weed, used to the smell of it, but was always too afraid to do it herself. But today, something changed. She actually wanted to try it.
"Actually, yes. Why not?" She mumbled to him, ignoring his obvious look of surprise, and made her way over to the couch to take a seat next to him, her head resting on the drummers broad shoulder. He quickly exchanged glances with Colson to make sure it was okay that he got his little sister high for the first time.
"Go for it. It might do her some good." Colson responded before turning his attention back to the phone glued in his right hand. Rook shrugged and finished rolling the blunt before he put it between his lips and lit it. He took a couple hits and held the smoke in his lungs for a few seconds before slowly blowing it out.
Once it was her turn, he shifted in his seat to face her better before he extended the blunt out for her to take. She hesitated for a moment, nervous about how it would effect her. She had no idea what to expect. Still, she reached out and took it between her delicate fingers.
She looked up Rook to see his reassuring smile before she placed the blunt between her lips and took one big hit. She barely held the smoke in for half a second before she began coughing up a lung, her eyes slightly watering. "Shit, I probably should have told you not to take a big ass hit like that unless you are used to it."
Rook was patting her on the back, a slightly worried expression on his face before he met her gaze again, falling into a fit of laughter at the look of her eyes. "Oh my god, M. Your eyes get so fucking red when you smoke. You look high as fuck. How do you feel?" He asked her, Madison unsure of how she felt about the whole thing.
"I feel kind of numb. Like I'm floating in the air." She spoke in a slow tone as she handed the blunt back to Rook who couldn't stop himself from laughing. She reached out and smacked his chest, her lips forming into a small pout. "Stop laughing at me! I'm sure I'm not the only one who has this kind of reaction.
Rook threw his hands up in defense, his teeth catching his lower lip to stop himself from laughing even further. Once both of them had finished smoking the entire blunt, Madison found herself giggling like a small child. She wasn't sad or overthinking. She was smiling and cracking jokes with her best friend for the first time in months.
"It's good to see you smiling again, M. I missed seeing you this happy." Rook mumbled to her as he leaned over to rest his head on her shoulder, his eyes scanning the screen on her phone, seeing a name he didn't recognize and seeing the smile on Madison's face widen when he texted her. "Who's Dom?"
Madison mentally panicked. She never told anyone about her conversations with Dom. Dean only found out by accident. She had no idea what to tell him or her brother who was staring at her expectantly. "He's a friend I met a while back. He's harmless, Colson. Quit glaring at me."
Colson looked as if he didn't believe a word she was saying. The smile on her face told him that. Nobody had gotten Madison to smile like that in at least a year. He was beginning to think she had feelings for this strange guy which was confusing to him because he thought she was still with Dean.
Madison got up from the couch, and kissed a pouting Rook on the cheek before she headed back up the stairs to continue her conversation with Dom.
Dom: so tell me one more time, you did what? lol
Madison: i smoked for the first time.
Dom: a cigarette or weed?
Madison: weed.
Dom: lmfaooo! how is that working out for you, love?
Madison: my head is super fuzzy and i can't stop giggling.
Dom: awe, that's so cute. i wish i could be there to witness it.
Madison: i wish you were here too. :(
Dom: hey, don't give me that sad face. you're in a good mood for once, don't let me not being there ruin it for you.
Dom: i don't want to be the reason you start pouting. it will ruin your high.
Madison: but i do wish you were here. this sucks. :(
Dom: maybe someday i will be there with you. just hold onto that and go enjoy your high, maddie.
Dom: enjoy being happy. don't let ANYTHING fucking ruin it for you. if someone tries to take away your happiness today, tell them i said to get fucked.
Madison: you're so cute awe.
