Zombie Girl VII. The rising sun

It's as if time itself paused for that split second, when the steel doors flew off their hinges and came crashing down into the infected knocking some from their feet.

Even the undead had been slightly taken aback by your sudden outburst, until they just recognised you as one of their own and went back to attacking the SOLDIERs.

The SOLDIERs however took a minute to process the impossible that had just occurred. Zack was suddenly took off guard as he had been staring wide eyed at you, who stood tall with an angry snarl on your features.

He cursed violently as he was suddenly shoved to the ground and clawed and bitten at.

"Zack!" You screamed catching the attention of Angeal and Reno. You shot over to the struggling ravenette and hauled yourself at the infected creature trying to tear Zack's eyes out.

Zack's heart skipped a beat. Had you really just called out his name? Had he just imagined it?

Wasting no time he scrambled to his feet and watched as you plunged your hand into the creature's chest with such ease, as if it were mere butter, and tore into halves. The zombie slumped to the floor in two pieces, its entrails littering the concrete and dressing you in its crimson life source.

Your body shook with rage and adrenaline. Even you were surprised that you had managed to tear the undead in half.

In mere seconds you were already onto your next victim and snapped their neck like a twig. The next undead was to your left and with one swift movement its head was in fleshly pieces on the ground.

You glanced at the rising sun. How was it possible? You had always thought that you only possessed this kind of power at night, when your human mind turned off. The thought both thrilled and terrified you.

Where you becoming something more than an infected human? Something much darker and dangerous? You mentally panicked. However you were drawn out of your thoughts when you heard your name being whispered.

You turned to Zack, and your heart would've stopped if you had one, as your gaze locked onto his mako blue hues. Tears brimmed your eyes. He was alive! After all that time he was ok and safe. Angeal too. You wanted nothing more than to engulf them into a tight embrace and never let go.

However a thought crossed your troubled mind. You were infected. Your friends would never look at you the same way again. Even now they stood there stunned and probably disgusted at what they saw.

While deep in your inner turmoil you failed to notice the presence behind you moving in quickly. Zack was much too slow to shout your name and prevent the sudden lethal blow to the back of your head knocking you unconscious.

As your vision faltered and faded you couldn't help but feel a strong wave of relief wash over you that your friends were alive and well. It brought a ghost of a smile to your chapped and bleeding lips as you succumbed to the darkness.

The amount of undead slowly but surely started to decrease and some were even shoved into the back of the truck, with a few relieved sighs of the SOLDIERs.

Zack clenched his jaw tightly and balled up his fists tightly, narrowing his eyes at Reno. The red head casually rested his rod on his shoulder and motioned over to Rude to pick your motionless body up.

Not a rational thought crossed Zack's fury plagued mind as he stormed over to Reno and grabbed his collar roughly.

"What The Hell I Said Stop! She Saved My Life!" Zack roared in the red head's face.

"Are you dense, yo?" Reno spat shoving the angered ravenette away with a mild look of annoyance. "She's infected you idiot. She didn't save you as you so insist! She was merely attacking anything in sight."

Zack growled, his bubbling rage only rising.

"The undead don't attack their own you dumbass! And how do you explain that!?" Zack yelled pointing over to the split corpse. Reno stumbled over his words as he took in the scene. Zack was right. Not once since the outbreak of the infected began had he seen such strength and brutality such as that, and he had never seen a report of infected attacking other infected. He shook his head not wanting to believe it. It was just some crazy anomaly! He refused to believe that you had called Zack's name...so much like a human.

Tearing his gaze from the carnage, Reno shoved Zack out of the way and headed toward the truck where Rude was currently placing you down. The red head spared you a quick mildly interested glance before slamming the door shut and locking it.

It was a shame that such a pretty girl had been bitten, but you were no exception. He was shipping you off to Dr. Hojo along with the others whether he liked it or not. You were infected, and that wouldn't change.

"Hey what are you doing!?" Zack yelled at Reno.

"Zack! For the last time she didn't save your life on purpose! And why are you so defensive hmm? Do you know this girl!?" Reno growled, glaring at the ravenette. The air was tense and so thick that it could have been cut with a knife. Everyone else shifted uncomfortably having nothing to say, but watched the two fight.

Zack opened his mouth to speak but before he could utter a word, a warm firm hand clamped on his shoulder. He looked back to see Angeal shaking his head at his, silently telling him to let it go.

As the tention faded, everyone piled into the safer section of the truck while Zack and Angeal lingered outside.

"What are you doing!? Why are you helping him?" Zack hissed quietly. Angeal gave him a stern look.

"I told you before, I don't like this anymore than you do, but (Y/n) is unpredictable at the moment and I recommend we go along with it until we know for certain what happened here."

Zack went to protest but one glare from his brunette friend kept his mouth shut and caused Zack to hang his head in defeat.

Like a puppy whose toy was taken away, Zack followed Angeal into the truck without another word.

~

By the time you came to, you were no longer being knocked and jolted around by the journey of the truck, but now strapped down tightly to a chair in the centre of a small dull grey room, with a single door with no windows.

Your non-existent heart thumped with fear as you spotted the trolley with a tray of tools, scalpels and needles to your right.

Where had they taken you? And why? What on earth did they hope to accomplish?

Your meek attempts to struggle out of your deathly tight restraints were futile and you panic slowly started to rise.

Your breath caught in your throat as the door flew open, revealing a strange looking man in a white medical coat, but the feature that scared you most was the insane stretch of his Cheshire cat like grin.
