Inko hummed a happy tune as she set the table for lunch. A casserole was baking in the oven, the scent of cheese, meat, baking bread and spices wafting through the air. There was the sound of scuffling mixed with laughter coming from the center of the apartment, near the TV and couches. Looking back, she saw the two boys, Izuku and Katsuki play fighting with their hero plushies, making sound effects from their mouths mixed with toddler babble. That made her smile, the easy camaraderie the two had, as she took their sippy cups and started filling them with juice.
"Kacchan, the monster is here!" Izuku shouted. Katsuki, or Kacchan as his son called him, made the approximation of whooshing sounds and explosions.
"Monsters hafta run cuz the hero is here!" There was a happy shout and she heard the sound of small feet running mixed with tiny giggles.
It had been months since she had started babysitting over Katsuki, ever since she became friends with the Bakugou's. It was a strange coincidence seeing the family a few months later in the grocery, ever since the restaurant fiasco. Recognizing the loud yet kind Mitsuki, she had sent a quick hello to her, which caused the ash blonde woman to chat her up. That chat became an invitation to coffee when they found out that they weren't that far away from each other. One coffee date became a second, followed by an invitation to dinner, a play date with for the boys, and pretty soon, Inko found herself fast friends with the family. Now, two years later, she was still good friends with the family, and was trusted enough to watch over the 3-year-old Katsuki.
Mitsuki and Masaru were initially hesitant to ask for her help, especially when they found out her husband Hisashi actually worked overseas and was rarely at home. But with their jobs now demanding more of their time, such as impromptu fashion disasters that required their personal touch to fix, they turned to her to watch over Katsuki for a few days. Apparently she was the only one they trusted that was a} nearby b) was a responsible adult c) was not a high profile actor or model to attract attention (which made Inko wonder just which famous actors were they close too). They promised to pay for all the damages ("And I mean all of them" Mitsuki had said, staring at her intently and making Inko nervous to what they could possibly be expecting), and even offered Inko to use their house ("At least if something breaks, we won't feel as guilty because it's ours").
While Inko had to admit that juggling two 3-year-olds on her own wasn't going to be a piece of cake, she was still surviving even after 2 days of cleaning diapers and messes. Sure, Katsuki was a bigger handful than she expected, often running around naked and shouting at the top of her lungs, he wasn't as big of a burden as Mitsuki warned her of. In fact, he was undeniably cute to her. With the ash blond hair, the red eyes, the way he smirked, he was practically a splitting of Mitsuki with Masaru's subtle influences thrown in. And he was always laughing so loud and acting so serious sometimes. One moment he could be racing around the room, 'flying' with his All Might plushie, the next moment he could be sitting quietly as he listened to her baby boy Izuku make random babbles and words like he could understand.
"Food's almost ready kids!" she shouted. There were a couple shouts of "Yay food!" and "Hung'y!" that had her laughing. Finally finished with the sippy cups and her own glass of iced tea, she suddenly jumped when she heard a loud wail. Quickly turning around, she saw Izuku lying on the floor, crying. Katsuki was sitting quietly, staring at Izuku with wide eyes, holding a plush snake in his hands.
"What happened?" she asked them, gently holding Izuku. The green haired toddler kept crying, tears still streaming down his face.
"'m sorry auntie," Katsuki quietly spoke. "We tugged the monster and I pulled hard. Izu slipped." There was a wide eyed look in the boy's eyes, like he was on the verge of crying himself. Inko managed to prevent that with a soft pat on the head and giving him a smile, causing the panicked look to fade.
