-Michael-

I get the piece of paper where I scribbled her number down 3 weeks ago. I run to the home phone and then hastily grab the phone.

I dial her number and press the green phone button.

i hope she picks up...

"H-Hello?" Her sweet voice echoes through the receiver.

She’s been crying.

“Hayley.” I gasp breathlessly through the phone because of that small marathon I did to get to the phone.

“M-Michael? What?” she says. I hear her sniffle and my heart sinks.

“I’m sorry I didn’t reply to your messages if you sent me any. I threw my phone at a wall and it shattered and I don’t have a laptop or a computer.” I explain to her. She gasps and I laugh.

“It’s okay,” She tells me sweetly.

Time to throw out the million dollar question.

“Why? What happened? Why didn’t you tell me?!” I tell her. She chokes and hesitated.

“I-I don’t know.” Hayley tells me quietly.

“Yes you do. Tell me otherwise I'm done. I’m done with whatever… whatever this is.” I tell her in a deflated tone.

“She pushed me over the edge. I don’t know why I didn’t tell you. I just wasn’t in the right state of mind.” She whispers ashamed.

“Why didn’t you tell me!? I kept telling you, talk to me if you have a problem or if you feel sad. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Then I get a DM from Grace and Brianna telling me that you tried to commit suicide and you’re in a hospital almost dead!! What the fuck!?” I yell at her.

I hear her sobbing and I immediately feel bad.

“I-I'm sorry Michael!!” She cries through the phone.

“Just tell me why?!” tears of frustration roll down my face and I furiously wipe them away. I almost break the phone by holding it too tightly.

“Can I j-just DM y-you instead… it’s too ha-hard for me to s-say in person.” She tells me quietly.

She sounds so…. Broken.

“You can’t. I don’t have a laptop or a phone.” I remind her. I use the same soft tone that she used because I don’t want her to cry.

“Use, someone else’s phone I don’t know! I just c-can’t say this over the phone.” She pleads.

“Where do you live?” I ask her, trying to sound not creepy.

“I live in Adelaide.” My heart beat quickens.

I can see her in person.

“Where? Where in Adelaide?” I ask her.

“In the city. I live with my 4 other best friends Jade, Brianna, Grace and Rose.” She tells me. Jade.

Jade McLaren?

No.

“I’ll see you soon Hayley.” I tell her mysteriously.

“Wh-“the line goes dead as I hang up. Just to be more dramatic.
