"Liam, this is hopeless!" I whined, dropping my shoulders forward as I whirled around, Glock pointed towards the floor.
"No, it isn't. You can improve over time. We can practice, Ava. Don't be so hard on yourself." His encouragement made my heart swell, but the missed target over the last hour still mocked me.
"You'd be dead if I had to defend you and you know it."
Liam failed to hide his smirk, placing his hands on my shoulder and softly spinning me back to face the target. With his touch burning against the skin on my hips, I shivered, closing my eyes and leaning into him.
"Focus, sweetheart. On the target, not me. Don't let yourself get distracted."
I rolled my eyes dramatically, completely unable to do as he said when his hands skimmed lower, tempting the waistband of my jeans.
"Liam..." I whispered, the hairs on the back of my neck standing.
"Focus, Avery. There will always be something happening around you. You can't lose focus on your target. It could cost you your life, or ours."
I sucked in a breath. "Yours?"
"Miles and I will always do everything we can to ensure your safety if the situation ever became a reality, Ava, you know that. But if you found yourself in danger and we were already mid fight, I need to know you'd be able to handle yourself."
"You saw me take Vanessa's ass down a peg." I wiggled my eyebrows back at him, but he shook his head, the scowl on his face not budging.
"You can't bring heels to a gun fight, brat."
I huffed, lifting the gun and aiming quickly, firing off two rounds and missing the target entirely.
"Fuck! See? This is no use. Can't we just go to the gym and practice sparring?"
"That's our next stop, yes. But you need to at least have a good handle on this, too. Just in case. I hope it never has to come down to it, but I need to know you can hold your own. I need to prepare you for the worst."
I shut my eyes, squaring my shoulders and ignoring my flinch of anticipation as Liam's hands found my hips once more, taunting me.
Breathing deeply, I forced my desire for him aside and focused on the silhouette on the paper before me, firing once. The bullet flew through the target's shoulder and I felt a grin spread widely across my face, refocusing and firing again, this time hitting the base of the assailant's throat.
Setting the gun on the ledge before me, I spun and jumped into Liam's already outstretched arms, laughing and kicking my feet excitedly when he picked me up in a tight hug.
"Told you you could do it." He chuckled, the deep, throaty sound reverberating through my adrenaline-filled body.
Without thinking twice, I leaned back enough to cover his lips with my own, moaning against his mouth and fisting my hands into his hair.
"Gym... we need to get to the gym. We have an audience here." His voice was a harsh whisper against my greedy lips, low and rough in arousal as he held himself back.
My mind shot back to my dream days before, Liam's cock pressing against my clit when he held me against the shower wall, the water streaming down around us.
I pushed away from him, landing on my feet and swaying my hips to accentuate my ass, heading for the door.
I turned back, an innocent smile on my face. "You coming?"
