Lana Condor as Lois Phelps
"Finn!" Lois called out longingly as she hurried after him through the Garrison doors. Although darkness had fell and a cool temperature had swooped in, she couldn't allow the youngest Shelby to sulk alone on the dangerous streets of Birmingham, "Finn, wait!"
Reluctantly, the distant figure slowed, his shoulders slightly hunched over as his hands sat heavily in his pockets. However, none of that mattered to Lois, because at least he had acknowledged her concerned presence.
Carefully, the young woman jogged across the uneven cobbles, her velvet hair acting as a shield against the world, blocking out everything apart from Finn in front of her. That was often how the world of Lois Phelps was nowadays, the only thing that mattered to the was the undeniably handsome, kind and selfless runt of the Shelby family. He was perfect in every way, not that he could see that himself.
"You should not let them annoy you so," Lois spoke calmly, sliding her soft hand into his pocket to clasp his own as she appeared at his side. Naturally, his rougher hand joined with hers fondly, before they emerged united from his coat pocket.
With his deceiving, bladed cap on his head, the eighteen year old turned to face his girlfriend with his jaw clenched tightly, fresh anger still running through his veins from the events of the night. Regardless of his furious outlook, his alluring blue eyes promised Lois that it was still very much her Finn inside.
"I know Lois, but it's bloody infuriating. They want me to step up, and then treat me like a fucking kid." He voiced his issue, kicking a rogue stone on the ground which trundled noisily across the road. Understandingly, she nodded as they strolled back home in the dull moonlight, squeezing his hand tenderly to show her compassion.
"Finn, I understand they are your brothers, and you and I both love them dearly, but you don't owe them anything. You are your own person, they can't expect you to be someone you are not." Lois advised thoughtfully, not wanting to widened the gap between Finn and his two remaining eldest brothers. She knew Tommy and Arthur meant well, but sometimes they were too harsh on Finn, just as they were with everyone else.
"Like John you mean. That's who they want me to be. But I'm not John, Lois." Finn admitted honestly, half in a state of vexation, shortly followed by a wave of sadness at the thought of his late brother. His heels kicked firmly against the ground during their journey, finding a way to use of some of his fury without resorting to physical violence.
"And I would not want you to be." Lois paused, pulling Finn gently around to face her, the only hint of light reflecting from the moon littered their faces as they stood mere inches apart.
"Finn, you're not John, nobody can replace him, and nobody should have to." She reasoned sensibly, a reassuring smile appearing on her face as she placed a hand against Finn's cold cheek. A long, burning cut had sliced against his cheekbone earlier that day, glaringly evident for all to see that the youngest Shelby had been dragged in to some violence that was far out of his league.
He was lucky a scratch was all he got, but even this premature injury put a lot into perspective for all the family, Finn included.
"You are a Shelby, you're not John or Arthur, or even bloody Tommy," Lois threw one arm out to emphasise the stupidity of it all, causing a small laugh to emerge from Finn's lips as he listened, "You, Finn Shelby, are my very favourite of all. If you ever change, I will beat the old you back into that body of yours myself."
Lois smiled lovingly, delicately caressing the scar as Finn's jaw slowly relaxed back to its neutral state, and his shoulders became a bit less sorry for themselves.
"You know I love you, so much." Finn responded with a bright grin on his face, unexpectedly wrapping his arms under Lois's, sweeping her up and spinning her around on the empty street. She shrieked in surprise, gripping his biceps happily as they gallivanted around clumsily. It was a relief that neither of them tripped in their moment of joy, that was often an occurrence.
"I'm guessing this means you feel a bit less stressed now." Lois laughed contently, dragging him back towards their house once her feet were safely back on the ground, "I promise you, there is so many things you could do for the business, not involving violence." She clarified, using her hands largely to explain.
"Michael works on the legal side, and Polly. They'll find you something to do. Or you could do whatever Ada does..." Lois rose an eyebrow smartly, indicating that there were multiple options rather than mindless killing.
"I'd rather just do you." Finn added cheekily, chuckling as Lois narrowed her eyebrows, not yet understanding what he meant. Seconds later, her face contorted into pleasant disbelief and a blush flooded to her cheeks immediately, "Finn!" She slapped his arm harmlessly, giggling beside him as they arrived at their flat.
It was Finn's flat technically, but Lois had moved in to allow her brothers and sisters to have their own rooms in her family home. Her innocent mother truly believed Lois was sleeping in a separate room every night whilst her 'best friend' slept soundly in the main bedroom. What she didn't know certainly couldn't hurt her.
After Finn fiddled with the keys in the lock, he held the door open in a gentlemanly manner so that Lois could saunter by into the homely flat first, "Well at least one good thing came out of tonight." He announced, locking the door safely behind them.
Placing her bag on the dining room table, Lois began to unwind her silk scarf as she looked over at Finn out of interest, "And what's that then?" She titled her head to one side, offering a sincere smile as Finn slapped his hat down against the counter.
His mischievous smile insinuated to Lois that he had something planned, and the second he spoke, she knew exactly what, "We can have an early night..."
