I knew I couldn't stay with the blood tests going on in the biology lab in preparation for the upcoming blood drive in town, but what I didn't expect was to see Bella on the side of some lonely road, in the rain, sitting on the hood of her car... shouldn't she be in school? She must have seen me coming towards her because she tilted her head slightly to one side... kind of like a confused puppy.
"Edward...?" She murmured, I almost wasn't sure if she meant for me to hear her."Bella what in the world are you doing out here?" I said, looking her over, my overprotective mind went into overdrive, worried she had been in a hit and run incident or something like that.
"Well... uhh... you're gonna laugh..."
I was stunned,
"Why?""Because it's stupid..."
"Humor me..." I pleaded, and she sighed, hanging her head in her hands.
"I uhh... I get nauseous when there's blood... there I said it happy now?!?"I couldn't help it... I snorted a little,
The irony...
Meanwhile just the smell of her, wet from the pouring rain... was enough to....
No. Don't focus on that."It's not funny." She whined
"No it's not... I know it's not... so anyway why are you out here then?"
"They automatically assumed the worst so they sent me home, and Charlie's still working and of course this HAD to be the day my truck engine crapped out on me... I swear to god the one time it keels over on me..." she grumbled, I just smiled,
"Well unfortunately I don't have my car with me, I had an important errand to run today so I was taken out of school and I wasn't actually expecting to meet anyone all the way out here on my jog afterwards. Buuuut... the rain is letting up... I could just walk you home..."
I could hear her heart stutter and I was worried I had scared her somehow... but her cheeks... flushed red...? Strange reaction considering what had been going on between us lately.... but it was like we were at a tipping point... not quite falling over either side, but one thing could change it for the bad or for the good."I mean... it's okay... I could just call Jake to fix it... and it's really not that far of a walk to my house anyways... I mean Jake works on cars all the time I'm sure he could-"
Yeah no... that wasn't happening... not on my watch... if he was who I thought he was..."No really I insist! I'm not just going to leave you out here alone in the middle of the woods in the cold rain!" I said, and she nodded, dazed.
"Oh uhh okay...? Sure..."
So we started walking...
It really was tedious sometimes to keep a human pace as I walked, but this was a way to keep an eye on her, as well as get to know her better...
And even though I knew I shouldn't I wanted to be closer to her."So..." she said, looking up at me.
"So what?" I said,
"Uhh... you always jog in the woods in the rain?"
I laughed, that's what she picked up on? Not that I was gone all day... not that I just happened to be around when her car broke down?
"actually I find it kind of relaxing..." how true it was she'd hopefully never know, "but no... not usually in the rain..."
"Oh."
There was an awkward silence, then she stopped,"See I told you we weren't very far!"
And sure enough up the hill was Chief Swan's house.
"Oh okay..." I said, feeling disappointed I hadn't been able to ask more questions like I did the day before...
But when we got to the front porch she paused at the door.
