One Tuesday night, Tony spoke, "Wanna know what I wanna know, Emma? Why can't I hack your phone?"
Emma spits out her water, "You tried to hack my phone? I thought there was such a thing as privacy."
Clint pats her on the back, "Not when you live with Tony."
She just rolls her eyes, "Well, Tony, you don't have the right to check my phone. Clint and Nat do, yes, and I allow them to. You, though, don't."
Tony scoffs, "Just let me take a look."
"Why the hell would I do that?" Emma scoops up some spaghetti on her fork, "Because last I checked, you're the kind of guy to put a tracker on it."
"Well," Tony rolls his eyes, giving up, "I just don't understand how I can't hack into it."
"Maybe," She slurps some spaghetti, "I haven't allowed you to. Have you ever thought of the idea that I could be smart?"
"Well, duh." He waves his arms around, "You qualified to be our little Avenger for a reason."
"No, no, no, no." Clint says in a rush, "She's not gonna become an Avenger."
She points her fork at Clint, "I agree with that guy."
Tony raises an eyebrow, "Why not? I mean, you and Nat are training her to fight."
"In self defense!" Clint shrieks, "Just because Peter can be a superhero doesn't mean Emma can too. I mean, after all, Peter has superpowers. And Steve's still pissed you had him fight a teenager."
Tony rolls his eyes and scoffs, "I'm just saying, with us training her, she could be a great Avenger."
"Yeah." Clint sighs, "When she's fifty."
"How about," Emma twirls her fork as if she's thinking about it, "Never."
Clint points at her, "Or never. You know, that always works."
Tony rubs his forehead, "Then why'd we adopt a kid?"
"So the team would have something to fight for." Clint says in a 'duh' tone, "Everyone agreed on that."
Emma scoffs and stands up with her plate, fork, and cup, "Nice to know that's all I'm here for."
Clint puts his arms up in defense, "You know that's not what I meant, Emma."
She sighs, rolls her eyes, and puts the dishes in the sink, "I'll be in my room when you need me."
---
Emma lies in bed, staring at the peach ceiling, wondering where she'd be if she never hacked Google and put in her number for Dominoes. She wanted to see who would call. Low and behold, Tony Stark did. And it all lead to her getting adopted.
She knew Clint and Nat loved her like a daughter, but she couldn't help but wonder about the others. Well, besides Peter, Pietro, and Wanda. She knew she was a sister to the twins, and she learned how Peter felt on the chat.
She also couldn't help but freak out about Anonymous' purpose on the chat. No matter what she did, she couldn't find out who they were. It was like they weren't even on her planet. She also couldn't kick them out of the chat, either.
Emma also assumed Anonymous was a girl. And, no, it wasn't a whole girl power thing, it was about how she cared about the relationship thing. Clint was teasing, and Tony just wanted to see Peter with someone he actually loved. But Anonymous was different. The only ones on the chat who really cared were the girls.
She wondered who or what Anonymous was. Emma tried her best to figure it out, but nothing worked. The thought that Anonymous was this 'Author' person passed through her mind once or twice, but she dismissed it right off the bat. Wade was crazy, right?
But nothing she thought about could lead to the thing that was going to happen in three minutes time. Well, 3 minutes and 42 seconds, but who was counting?
As Emma laid on that bed, the southeast entrance had 7 Hydra agents making their way through the door. They had shut down FRIDAY and the alarm system. No one knew.
There were only three people in the compound. The Avengers had figured they didn't need guards. Tony was tech reliant and Clint was asleep. So the three were completely oblivious to what was happening.
Maybe if Peter had been there, he would have heard the agents make their way to Emma's room. Maybe he could've saved her. Or maybe, if Steve was conveniently walking through the hallways with Bucky, they would've kicked some Hydra ass.
Or maybe, if Emma had never hacked Google, she wouldn't be in this mess. But, who's supposed to think of supposed outcomes, right? You got what you have and it may be your fault, but the only one who could change the future was Doctor Stephen Strange. So, no one could help.
So, as the Hydra agents slowly opened the door, just a crack, and threw a smoke bomb in there, Emma thought the noise was just Tony walking through the halls with his suit again. Until the room filled with smoke, but it was too late. The gas had already made Emma fall unconscious, there were no screams to alert the two others.
So, a Hydra agent wrote a note:
Surrender. Or Emma gets it.
Hail Hydra
And the agents slowly drug her out and made their way back to their big, conveniently black, van, and shoved her into the back, driving off into the night.
A lot of words could be used to describe this night. But, there is only an onomatopoeia that the Author would use. And here, she shall use it.
Dun Dun Dun.
