"LAST DAY OF SCHOOL!"
My boyfriend shouts form the top of the staircase. Everyone cheers as he runs down the stairs and takes my arm.
"Babe, your so crazy OMG!" I say.
He smirks and says "You coming to the party tonight at Evans?"
I say "Of course! Have I ever missed a last day of school party?"
"Never, that's why your my chick."
I cringe at the word "chick" EW. I am not an object. I need to break up with him this summer and find a summer fling. Ooh maybe someone from Rockford or even Naperville! More fun for me!
I get a ride home in his 2019 convertible, I have to say his money is probably the most attractive thing about him. My next thought is 'I hate myself for thinking that, seriously. I am so selfish and petty.' I push away the thoughts and just try to enjoy my ride home.
I walk through the door giddy to find an outfit to get everyone staring at me and only me. Maybe I like this sort of party girl lifestyle more than I thought I did. While I pick and prod at all of my clothing I think about Adam. When he was home he never made any trouble. Of course he was your typical teenager, nothing special to most but to my parents he could do nothing wrong. He liked sports my Dad liked sports, he likes being waited upon and my Mom liked waiting upon. The puzzle pieces fit I guess, but my puzzle piece was laying on the floor or perhaps inside of the vacuum, I didn't belong.
After an hour of going through all of my clothing and trying desperately to find the best dress, I hear my mom call me,
"Syd, downstairs now. We need to have a conversation with you."
Every hair on my body stands up and I get the chills. Oh no. What did they find? What did they get told? Are they going to not let me go to the party tonight?
"One minute!" I call back my heart pounding.
I walk downstairs to see my Mom and Dad sitting at the table, serious but excited looks on their faces. I begin to release my worry. 'New car?' I think 'Maybe a puppy!' I also think. I sit down with a smile on my face,
"So what is this about?" My parents stare into each others faces and look down.
"Honey" my Dad starts, "as you know your mom has been looking for a job for a while and we have some good news, she found one! But we also have some bad news to go along with that."
My heart pounds faster.
"Mom what's happening?" I ask curiously.
"WERE MOVING TO NANTUCKET FOR THE SUMMER!" I slam my palms on the table.
"WHAT?!"
"You two can not just expect me to pack up and leave when this summer could be one of the best in my life! I hate you!"
I storm up to my room furious and shocked. I slam the door and leap onto my bed. I cry and scream like a two year old throwing a tantrum. I was a two year old throwing a tantrum. Fuck. My. Life.
