Steak, green beans, and mashed potatoes. Delicious I am absolutely starving. We all eat contently making small talk here and there to avoid awkward paused in conversation. Not much friendship chemistry happening here. Mom might need to be a little more juiced up for that. Dad refills her martini again, and then everything goes to shit.
"What does Hayde like to do for fun?" My mom asks Sherry, Hayde had asked to be excused a while back and never returned.
"Well, he used to sail and play golf but he's more of a beer pong guy these days." Sherry says, obviously had too much to drink.
My Mom and Dad freeze but only momentarily,
"Hm, Sydney is familiar to that lifestyle herself."
I am shocked. I say I have a girl emergency and practically sprint out of the dining room hoping to find solace anywhere but there I grab a bottle of Svedka on my way out, my parents don't see. I find a corner behind the porch not visible by the house and I plop down. I look to my left and am startled by the presence of Hayde, formerly known as "Boy". He stinks of champagne, and I hold up a bottle of vodka and shake it. He nods. So much for no alcohol.
We pass the bottle back and forth laughing and playing around. It feels so good to be numb again.
He asks me a question "What are you doing out here? I didn't even know you drank, I thought you were the perfect golden girl in a perfect golden family."
"I could say the same to you." I respond.
"I moved here to sober up and become the old me, before I needed to numb myself all of the time."
It slipped out before I could think, SHIT.
Hayde saw my expression,
"No, Syd, I get it. I've never admitted that before to anyone, but I do."
How the hell did this happen, we practically just fucking met and now we're admitting out biggest secrets to each other which just so happen to be the same. Our mutual hatred for life and need for numbing.
"I feel safe with you Hayde."
I know we just met but my thumb brushes over his and he looks me in my eyes. Fatally charming.
"Is it ok if I?" He says.
"Yes, please."

I stumble into the house intoxicated at 12. Luckily, my parents were just as tipsy as I was after bonding with their new friends over their kids who were given everything but still turned out to be the shit of the earth. Congrats! They were dead asleep still in dinner clothes.
I wasn't far from that point myself. I fell on my bed and said to myself,
"I just slept with a man who I just met."
Who was I becoming, AGAIN!
