Lavinia stood against the wall near Cypress watching Hendrick take a seat behind the desk. They were all currently gathered in the office of the gallery the guests left a few minutes earlier. Rex offered to see the guests out so she could deal with her current dilemma. He too left soon after giving Anita a ride home as the babysitter would be leaving soon. Mika had his back against the door while Kenny and Drake took the seats against the wall opposite to Lavinia. Katrina stood to the right of her husband behind the chair.
The room was silent for a while as everyone collected their thoughts but Lavinia's patience was wearing thin. Unable to handle it any longer she huffed crossing her arms. "So what the fuck is going on Hendrick?"
The man in question leaned forward resting his elbows on the desk while linking his fingers. Surprising everyone he leaned his forehead against linked hands sighing. Katrina places a hand on his shoulder squeezing slightly to show her support, she glanced up towards Lavinia."You need to understand this has been hard on us both," she winced slightly at her voice cracking, "my daughters death was sudden and we are still grieving."
Lavinia looked away feeling slightly guilty. Hendrick sat up his face aged from lack of sleep.
"It's fine Kat she has a right to be angry and want answers." He sighs, "I haven't been the greatest father either so I have no right to be offended."Lavinia scoffed glaring at him. "Haven't been the greatest?" She glanced around the room in disbelief, "You have been no father to me at all!" He frowned his eyes narrowed slightly.
"You told me to stay away I gave you what you wanted but I am still your father girl." She bristled at this but before she could say anything Mika spoke up.
"That is enough both of you need to calm down." He moved from the door to stand infront of the desk."You asked me to convince her to meet with you but grew impatient now explain what is going on." Mika moved away sitting beside Kenny.Hendrick nodded taking in a calming breath he stood to lean against the front of the desk facing everyone. "You all have seen the news correct?" He glanced at each face receiving a confirming nod. "After," he paused grimacing, "after we identified Aubrey's remains we were told the deaths were caused by the rebel faction."
Lavinia frowned interrupting him. "That is what the news said but they left one of their own at the scene which is common knowledge that the rebels leave none of their dead behind."
Hendrick nodded holding his chin thoughtfully, Katrina shook her head speaking up. "Yes this is true but the police told us that they were on scene very quickly so that must mean they didn't have time to take their member."
Cypress looked confused turning to Katrina."Why was your daughter with a member of the rebels in the first place?"
Katrina's eyes widened at what he was implying but Hendrick spoke for her.
"We don't know all we know is that one of the dead was a rebel member we don't believe Aubrey was even aware of this since the members have always been secretive."Lavinia began pacing her mind racing trying to understand what is going on none of it added up she stopped mid step realizing an important part is missing.
"Then what does this have to do with me?" She asked.Hendrick sighed glancing at Mika who gestured for him to continue. "The same day we ID'd the body a package was sent to our home." He paused reaching into his suit pulling out papers. "They called us liars and fakes saying we had no right to govern our kind when we ourselves tainted the pureblood society."
Lavinia froze bristling at this she turned and faced Hendrick. "Tainted?" Lavinia hissed her eyes narrowed to slits, "So what your saying is my dirty blood was such a stain on your pure blood family!" She shouted. "And Aubrey's death is punishment," Her breath hitched as tears fell down her face, "It's my fault?"
