"Look, there's ducks!"
Across the path, near the little fountain was a family of ducks waddling around, quacking angrily when the little girl wasn't feeling them bread fast enough. She giggled as she dropped little crumbs.
Luke and Ashton had taken the afternoon off to spend together. They'd been busy at work, Ashton had planned another "Theme Week" at the bar to get more customers inside, and Luke was busy with just the regular comings and goings of his. They felt like they hadn't seen each other in a while, and needed some time to relax with the other.
Luke hung on Ashton's arm as they paraded around Washington Square Park.
"They're cute," Ashton commented. "Just like you," He booped Luke on the nose, causing the blonde to scrunch his nose and turn away. Secretly, he loved when Ashton acted cutesy with him and he made sure to smile at his boyfriend after so he knew.
"I need to go shopping tomorrow," Ashton commented absently as they walked along the grey cobblestones.
Luke hummed, watching the birds fly free above them.
"Do you want to come with me? I know I never get the right stuff, even when you give me a list," Ashton smiled as Luke rolled his eyes. A couple times, Luke asked him to grab a few things for him. He almost always, without fail, came back with the wrong items.
"Yes, I suppose I could babysit you while you go shopping,"
"Hey, that's not fair, I know most of the things I need to get."
"Mhm, tell that to my cheese," Luke scoffed. One of the few foods Luke was permitted to make was nachos in the microwave and Ashton kept buying the wrong kind of cheese that Luke did not like.
"I apologized for that, and now I know to get the block, not the pre-shredded," he mumbled.
Luke took pity on him and stopped, stepping in front of him and pressing a sweet kiss to his lips.
"I love you," he said after he could take a breath.
"I love you too," Ashton replied.
They continued walking, coming across an area with stone tables and chairs where there were a few people playing chess.
"Hey! Look!" Ashton pointed at an empty table. "Wanna play?"
Without waiting for an answer, Luke was being dragged to the stone chair and gently lowered. Ashton sat across from him, setting up the slightly larger than normal chess set.
"You know how to play chess?" Luke asked, looking at the different shaped pieces and wondering if they meant anything.
"Yeah of course. My friends growing up loved games; board games, card games, you name it, we'd play. In college, my other friend group, not the one Michael was part of, we played strategy games once a week for hours."
Luke smirked.
"So you were a nerd then?"
Ashton scoffed in indignation. He looked up at Luke with a small pout that did something to Luke's heart.
"No I wasn't a nerd. I was cool, and I gave status to the nerds I was friends with." Luke shook his head, leaning his elbows against the cold edge of the table. "I partied, I rode a skateboard, so trust me, I was cool. Everyone on campus knew who I was,"
"I mean, you're Ashton Fucking Irwin, who wouldn't know who you are?" Luke quoted the line Ashton said to him the second time they met. He looked at Luke curiously, wondering why that line was familiar.
