"Are you sure about this?" Eve and Anna were perched over the desk where a list of students staying for the holidays way lying.
"Positive."
Eve added her name to the bottom of the list in her perfect handwriting below "Cho Chang" and passed the quill to her best friend.
"Hurry up we don't have all day ladies." Professor Flitwick called from the stool he was stood on in front of the chalk board.
A long queue of Ravenclaws were forming an orderly line behind them. After a very long hour in the Hospital wing the morning the names were being collected, Eve had decided she was going to put her name down on the list. And there was nothing her mother could say that would stop her.
But Eve would admit she was slightly terrified for when she'd see her mother again after defying her; definitely not looking forward to that conversation when the time came.
Anna jotted her name down in her less swirly but still neat hand writing, and passed the quill along.
The girls linked arms and strolled down to their common room, the air was crisp and cool but they were yet to have any snow that settled. Anna was particularly excited for the snow, her and Lee had a bet for who could hit Fred with a snowball first.
Before they had written their names down, Eve and Anna had bumped into Lee and Fred who were walking to meet George, also going to say they were staying for Christmas.
It was a little awkward at first seems as Eve hadn't spoken to them since her argument with George but they soon agreed it was water under the bridge and caught up a little.
Feeling much better today, Eve had a new found spring in her step. She had more time with her friends now they'd all be together for Christmas and for however long it took for her mother to snatch her back. The only issue was the Yule ball.
The whole situation with George was very difficult to get around. Was she supposed to wait for them to make up and hope he asked her to go with him? Or should she find someone else? Or even bother going at all?
The last option was quickly scratched off by Anna but one thing was for certain. She'd need an outfit.
"I've got the perfect thing you can wear don't worry."
Seems as Eve hadn't been planning to stay she didn't bother packing the dress robes that were listed on her letter at the start of the year. Luckily for her, Anna had been very indecisive and brought multiple things with her and knew a spell that would make them fit perfectly.
There was still a couple of hours before dance practice begun (Eve had agreed to be Anna's partner) and they had decided to spend the time writing a letter to Eve's mother. Informing her of her daughters plans to stay...
Coming to a holt in front of the big bronze eagle, the girls watched as it opened it's mouth to speak.
"Could it possibly go any slower... it's bloody freezing out here."
Eve could have sworn she saw the knocker roll it's eyes after Anna spoke, can birds roll their eyes? She thought to herself as she listened to the riddle.
"Tear one off and scratch it's head. What was red's now black instead."
"Ooh!" Anna exclaimed, "A match." She answered proudly.
Looking disgruntled, the eagle opened the door and the girls slipped inside.
"You're always so rude to Edgar." Eve walked over to their usual seat by one of the many grand glass windows, settling into the soft velvet cushions.
