I heard someone calling my name from the betting shop.I couldn't make out the familiar voice but chances are it was Arthur or John asking me to check the books "Yes ,who's calling me" I shouted walking into the betting shops "Oi lotts come over here and check if this is right"John shouted from the other side of the shop."A please wouldn't go unnoticed John boy "I sighed walking towards his desk to check the maths.

Whenever anyone needs help with the books I always have to check.I stayed in school for the longest so they just assume I'm smart.I was shit at maths if I'm honest but probably better than Arthur and John

"Jesus fucking Christ,who the fuck done this"I shouted out of frustration "Charlotte Shelby watch your language please" Polly said "Sorry aunt Pol ,but honestly who done this" "It was Arthur "John said quickly,pointing his finger at Arthur like a little child.

"What time are we going to the garrison ?"I asked while trying to fix the awful mess Arthur made "8 o clock "a voice replied.I looked at my watch '7:15' it read."fuck" I whispered to myself.By the time I had this done I would have to leave.If I even wanted to be done by 8 I would have to be quick

"Remember what I said Charlotte no drinking" Tommy reminded me while we were walking through the doors of the Garrison "I know Tom"I sighed.He had reminded me at least 5 times today already."Irish whiskey please Harry "Tommy asked Harry who was behind the bar and we all walked into the back.

After two hours of being in the back with my family.They had gone from being tipsy to extremely drunk.Arthur and John were fighting like toddlers,Ada was having extreme mood swings.She was giggling one minute,crying the next and two minutes later she was telling everyone how much she loves us.Polly had went home and Tommy ,well Tommy wasn't drunk he just sat back and watched his dysfunctional family with a smile on his face.As much as I loved them Arthur and John kept asking me who was right in their argument and Ada was leaning on my shoulder talking about absolute nonsense  so I decided to go find Finn.

When walking out the door I was his with a cold breeze and the smell of alcohol.The sound of men laughing and fighting seemed to become background noise when I saw Finn talking with Isaiah."Just act natural Charlotte,don't even look at him just talk to Finn" the voice in my head said as I walked towards them.Isaiah nodded at me and gave me a smile when he saw me walking over and I smiled back."Oh Char there you are.Are Arthur and John still fighting" Finn said talking loudly so I could hear him over all the other noise in the pub "Yes that's why I came out here"I said standing on my tippy toes to talk closer to his ear so he could hear me."Me and Isaiah were just about to go outside for some air if you want to come" Finn said gesturing to the door of the pub."yeah I'll come out I need some fresh air anyways" I replied walking behind Isaiah as Finn walked behind me.The second we got outside the smell of fresh air hit me.There was a breeze but it wasn't too cold,
more of a warm breeze.

I stood beside Finn as him and Isaiah talked about nonsense.Finn offered me his jacket but I said I was okay as I wasn't too cold.After a few minutes of being outside we came back into the pub and Finn said he was going to get drinks "oh god he's going to leave me alone with Isaiah how am I going to make conversation oh god".As Finn walked over to the bar Isaiah gave me a smile."So how've you been ?" Isaiah asked me "I've been good how are you ?and how's your Dad ?" I replied " I'm good ,My dads okay I guess.He hasn't been sleeping much really.He thinks I can't hear him awake at night but I can.How's your brothers been sleeping ?" "I haven't been taking much notice really.I suppose everyone's been the same after the war.At least their not like Danny I can't imagine that" "Yeah that must be awful.War was such an awful thing "Isaiah replied.The second our conversation finished Finn walked over with 3 drinks and placed them on the table.One in front of Isaiah,one in front of himself and one in front of me "Oh Finn I can't drink I told Tom I wouldn't "I said turning to Finn and pushing the drink in front of him "It's fine just drink it, it's not like he's going to find out"Finn said,quickly turning back to his conversation with Isaiah

Finn had gotten me two more drinks and I got sick of sitting beside Finn, listening to him and Isaiah ramble on about horses and girls, so I went into the back room.I sat in between Arthur and John because Ada was passed out at this stage.Tommy had left the back to handle some business and Arthur and John had bought me a drink.One drink turned into a few and next thing I knew I was drunk.I didn't even know what me,Arthur and John were talking about anymore we were just stumbling out words and giggling.Tommy walked into the back and I quickly hid the drink that was in front of me.Tommy must've seen "Charlotte come outside with me please"Tommy said sternly "Why ? It's cold "I said trying not to slur my words "Charlotte just come outside" he repeated.I quickly got up from my seat and followed Tommy outside the garrison.Once we had found a place where no one was standing I leaned against the wall and Tommy stood in front of me. "What did I tell you tonight Charlotte" Tommy asked me looking directly into my eyes "That I couldn't drink" I said quietly looking at the floor "I told you multiple times Charlotte and you still didn't listen to me.Nobody ever fucking listens"Tommy said loudly while pacing in front of me.I don't know if it was because I was drunk or because I don't do good in serious situations but I thought this was hilarious and started hysterically laughing."Just get back inside Charlotte and I'll deal with you later"Tommy said pointing at the door "Tom I'm sorr-" "NOW"Tommy shouted and with that I ran back inside.
