Prep Time

Daichi pov

"I know Suga says everything is okay but... what if it isn't? What if-"

"Hey Daichi! The newbies are here!" Tanaka yelled
"Okay. I'll go greet them in a few!"

I put on my jersey and looked at the number. I was #1, the Captain's number.

"Daichi? You okay?" A voice asked

I looked up and saw Suga standing there. He looked worried.

"Yeah. I'm fine."
"Daichi your not-"
"I said I'm fine!"

I put on my jersey and slammed the locker shut.

"Daichi I know it's hard to NOT worry about Y/n all the time, trust me I worry about her too... but she's just as old as you are, let her have some space."
"I know it's just..."
"DAICHI! WE GOT AN EMERGENCY!"

I ran out of the locker room with Suga right behind me. Just as I thought, one of the newbies, Hinata, seemed to be fighting with another new guy.

"HEY! Don't make fun of me you jerk!"

The blonde kid laughed and so did his friend.

"ENOUGH!" I yelled

Every single guy in the gym looked at me. The second years knew how vicious I could get if no one listened to me.

"Now. Our team is supposed to GET ALONG. Do that, and you'll be just fine. Now, Hinata... Kageyama... do you know why I brought you back onto the team?" I asked
"Because... we get along now?" Hinata asked
"Wrong. Your lucky you know my sister and yes, she spoke highly of both of your skills. Now. I expect you two to get along. Don't think I'll let you off easy because you impressed my sister." I said sternly

I looked to Noya and Tanaka. Even they were shocked at what I had just said.

"Wait Wait Wait. You're letting shorty and his "friend" back onto the team?" Tanaka asked

I nodded.

"Okay guys. We have practice in two hours against the girls team! Let's do this!"
"Right!" The guys replied in unison

I was on my way back to the lockers when Noya stopped me.

"Daichi... is Asahi coming back soon?"
"I honestly don't know. He needs time."
"HE'S HAD ENOUGH TIME BEING LAZY! IF ASAHI DOESN'T COME BACK THEN..."
"Then what Noya? Then what?"
"I WON'T COME BACK EITHER!" He said storming off

Suga just looked at me as Noya left.

"That was..."
"Yeah..."

There was silence. I looked to Hinata and Kageyama, who were silently arguing to each other. I looked to the blonde kid and his friend.

"Hey you! Blondie!" I yelled
"Hm?"
"What's your name?"
"Tsukishima."
"And I'm Yamaguchi!" His friend said
"Okay. Thanks for the nice introduction."

Immediately, Hinata and Kageyama stopped arguing. They made their way to the lockers.

Nishinoya pov

"Damn it Asahi. You should be on the team right now. A Libero can't do his job without the Ace. Why? You are the star player. Why aren't you here?"

"Noya!" A voice called

I turned around and saw Y/n standing there. She looked worried.

"You okay?" I asked
"I'm fine. Your the one who looks upset and angry."
"Yeah... I am. Daichi said Asahi probably isn't coming back. I... I can't do my job without him."

I felt some tears in my eyes. Y/n grabbed my wrists and pulled them down. She hugged me and held me close.

"Hey. It's okay. I'm sure Asahi will come back soon."
"Y/n?"
"Yes?"
"Your the Ace of the girls team right? Why don't you-"
"Join your team? That isn't the first time I've heard that idea."
"Wait really?! Who else told you to do that?!"
"Believe it or not... but it was Suga! He said I should!"
"Well he's right! You have so much to prove! You can do so much more on our team!"
"No offense Noya but your team is kinda screwed without a coach."
"Oh..."
"Yeah. Maybe once you find one... I'll think about it."
"Okay. Just... be safe okay?"
"I will. See ya on the court."

Y/n pov

I could hear the laughing already. The girls were probably watching. I walked back to the gym and just as I thought, about 10 sets of eyes were on me.

"Just ignore it Y/n... maybe it'll go away..."

"Y/n! Go get ready! Now!" The captain ordered

I just ran to the locker room.

"Okay... nothing weird... YET."

I rummaged through my locker and found a jersey. My number ended up being 10.

"Huh... don't know why... but I was expecting 2 or 4 for some reason..."

(A/n: GOT YA DIDN'T I! BAHAHAA IM SO EVIL!)

As I got ready, two voices got my attention.

"Woah. Are we seriously going to beat a bunch of girls?"
"I mean yeah. We can't just lose to them."
"Yeah but... Daichi's sister is on that team."
"You mean WAS on that team. She said she was planning on coming to our team if we find a coach. I heard... we ended up getting one."
"Oh? Who?"
"Some guy with the last name of Ukai. I think it's his grandkid?"

"Wait those are Noya and Suga's voices!"

"You seriously think Y/n will join now?"
"I think she will. She said she would think about it!"
"Well as long as she's safe, that all I care about."
"I agree with you Suga. Now, you have a game to win!"

I put on the jersey and sat on the ground up against the locker. I was scared. I was scared Daichi would find out tonight. I was scared I was going to get hurt. I was scared Suga or any of the guys would see me weak.

"I'm so weak. I can't defend myself from people. How can I defend Daichi if he see's me weak? How can I protect Suga from all the pain he sees me in? What about Noya? How can I protect him?"

"Y/n! Time to play!" One of the girls called

I got up and looked out the window into the sky. My eyes stared at the moon. One day, I would jump as high as the sky and fly, fly up to the glorious moon and stare down at the people who looked down on me.

"One day... one day I'm going to fly high... higher than the rest! Even higher than Daichi! Mark my words everyone, I will prove to the world that I am just as good!"
