"Hey Ke- Ken?"
Y/N had her phone out to video call Kenma. It was one of those times she'd want to call him just for the sake of hearing his voice and seeing his face. She expected to see his smile, but instead was met with red watery eyes and a smile that didn't look at all like Kenmas usual smile."Hey, Y/N..!" Kenma said, rubbing his eye.
"Ken, what's wrong?" Y/N asked, becoming more worried for the boy by the second.
"Nothings wrong, I'm okay." Kenma said, sounding miserable.
"Ken, you look like you've been.. crying. Has something happened?" She said worriedly.
"Y/N nothings happened, I'm okay! Honest." Kenma said unconvincingly.
"Are you sure? It really really doesn't look like it. You can talk to me about anything, you know?" Y/N said, trying to be supportive.
"I know. Thanks, Y/N."
"You're.. welcome.. " Y/N sighed dejectedly. She looked at Kenma in the camera, he had his playstation portable out and was playing a game.
"What are you playing?" Y/N asked, she didn't mind silence on call, but she was always curious to see what Kenma was playing."Miami Hotline." Kenma replied. He turned around so that Y/N was seeing the back of his head and the screen of his psp.
He done this alot, and Y/N liked it because she could see him clear level after level. Sure, the screen quality wasn't that great seeing as it was seperated by a camera, but as long as Y/N could see at least a little, she didn't mind. This time seemed different, Kenma seemed to be struggling more than usual and hadn't cleared any levels after 20 minutes, which didn't usually happen.
"You're a bit off your game today, Ken!" Y/N joked, hoping for a laugh from Kenma but she didn't get much of a reaction, just a shrug, which confused Y/N greatly. Usually, he'd laugh even if it wasn't funny, or he'd reply with "it's a difficult level, ok?" Or something similar.
Odd.
"I'm guessing that one was really difficult. You've been on it a half hour. Don't you get tired doing the same level that long?" Y/N asked, trying to start conversation.
"Not really. It just makes me more determined to win it." Kenma replied.
"Oh, I'm the opposite. I just get really mad."
"I do sometimes as well, but I still want to keep going cause I'll get madder if I don't get to finish."
"Oh that makes sense! It also makes sense how you're always up all night even when you're not on call with me." Y/N laughed, going down the route of trying to cheer Kenma up, but to no avail.
He continued playing his game, Y/N pretending to watch but really trying to find a way to cheer her boyfriend up. She cared for him so much, and all she wanted was for him to feel better. But how could she help him if he didn't talk to her?
"Ken..?""Y/N?"
"What's up?." Y/N tried again, but only to be shut down for a second time.
"Its nothing, I said. It's fine, I'm fine! I'm perfectly okay, so just get off case about it!" Kenma snapped at Y/N and hung up the call, much to Y/N's surprise.
"Wh- what?"
Y/N stared at the blank phone screen, dumbfounded. Kenma had never, ever, snapped like that before.
Staring at the screen, she felt a build up of emotions bubbling in her gut. Her heart felt as if it were breaking into pieces inside her chest. Her vision was blurry, and once the tears spilled from her eyes, they were unstoppable.Feeling that she'd done something wrong, she curled up beneath her covers, her whole body shaking with quiet, heartbroken sobs. After 10 minutes when she calmed down a bit, she sat back up and took her phone from her bedside table, experiencing a sensation similar to a knife right in the heart when she seen no messages from Kenma. Going into the group chat (now named "Skirt bois + Y/N" as courtesy of Y/N herself), she looked through chats, wondering who to talk to about her dilemma. After another 10 minutes, she decided on Kuroo since a) he knew Kenma best and b) he was who she was closest to; apart from Kenma of course.

Y/N
Kuroo
Can I talk to you
about something?Kuroo
Hey, Y/N what's up?Y/N
Well.. I think
Somethings up with
Ken
We were on call and it
looked as if he'd been
cryingKuroo
Oh?Y/N
Yeah and then when I
asked him what was
wrong, he wouldn't say
anything.Kuroo
Really?Y/N
Aye, and then he was
playing his game but he
seemed so distracted,
really unlike him so I
asked him again, and
he literally snapped at me,
telling me he was fine
and to get off his case
about it.Kuroo
He's definitely stressing
about something..Y/N
Kurok what do I do?Kuroo
You know what, message him.
Tell him that you love him and
that you're here for him
and that he can talk to you
when he's readyY/N
Ok, I'll try that and I'll
tell you how it goes
Thank you

With that, Y/N was feeling a bit better, so she opened her messages with Kenma, starting to type.

Y/N
Hey, Ken.
You going through a bad time? That's ok-
------------------
"No, no that sounds too weird.."
------------------
"Hey, Ken. I hope you're
okay, you seemed so
stressed earlier. I just
wanted to let you know
that I'm here for you,
and you can talk to me
about it when you're ready.
I love you, so much ❤

"That looks good enough.." Y/N approved, sending the message. She plugged her charger into her phone and waited on some sort of response. In an attempt to distract herself, she got on with some of her online schoolwork on her phone, getting distracted every time it vibrates in her hand.Eventually, after doing her music and I.T work, she checked her messages with Kenma and sighed after she seen what was underneath it.
